It is understandable, it is not a style for everyone. Though usually I think it comes down more to the vocals. Sure if someone made strictly instrumental music in the style, maybe more people would at least see what goes into it.

I always look for instrumental Death Metal for that reason, but seems like it is few and far between. A few I have found here and there (not counting lil acoustic interludes/intros and the like - just thinking tracks that are strictly more Death Metal, just without vocals)

This is the best example I have found:

That's actually pretty awesome

I dont think Rammstein or System are nu metal. They have some elements that you can call nu-metal but they are as far from nu-metal as Pantera are ( again a few elements nu-metal bands borrowed from them but completely different genre )

List of nu metal bands - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just so you can see SOAD is on it. Rammstein isn't I agree but the other bands that were mentioned are.

System usually get lumped into the Nu Metal thing cause of their early demos, which did have a more nu-metal sound to them.

Can hear it more on songs like this:

Daniel Corchado from The Chasm commented that the reason half the tracks from "Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm" were instrumental was because he was in his forties and thought the growl was ridiculous. I mention this because it wouldn't surprise me if this sentiment becomes more common as death metal musicians age, and if vocalists cease making such extensive use of the technique due to the long term effects of using it constantly.

I could certainly see that happening. There are times when i grow embarassed for an act i'm listening to. Often times it comes across forced and unnecessary. I like the feral sound of most black metal, but the vocals can be a game changer at times. I'm sure the extensive use can blowout vocalists voices also which causes them to move onto other forms of singing.
