That album is chock full of power ballad gems. I'd throw On With the Show and Merry Go Round out there also, great album.

Also great songs, but I'd say "Starry Eyes" just has that feel of a power ballad more than those. Otherwise it would be an impossible choice between that and "On with the Show". Nikki Sixx may not be the world's most amazing lyricist, but on "On with the Show" he proved that he isn't just some sleazy goon.

No, Sodom, Blind Guardian, and Can, were the best things to come outta Germany. The Scorpions were just heavy enough to appeal to Iron Maiden fans but just dull enough not to alienate Def Leppard fans. Two bands that are infinitely better than the Scorpions I might add.

What! Whilst those are all brilliant bands, late 1970s and early 1980s Scorpions were the best of the bunch.

Blech. I used to love the Scorpions, but now they just sound like dull, sanitized arena rock. They desperately needed a singer with actual personality.

What the fuck you on about bats, Klaus Meine is of the greatest vocalists of all time:cool: Yer sure his voice is a bit shot these days, but back then he was equal to Dio, Bruce Dickinson and anybody else you'd care to name......so stop dicking about.

True story...he's definitely on top singer lists.

He may have been a talented singer, but his singing style is hopelessly dull. It evokes no sense of excitement in me. I don't feel like I'm listening to a person, just a voice going along with the song. It sounds like a robot's impersonation of a trad metal vocalist.

Hopelessy dull? That's more like Roger Waters.

In this case we obviously have a different opinion on what's exciting in a metal singer.

Yeah, personally I find that not sucking is pretty exciting. :p:

Thread quickly derailed, in bad forum tradition.

I'll put it back on track. Pick from here or select other songs.
Metal Monday–The 100 Best Power Ballads of All-Time | Pastor Matt

My two favorites (that I can think of now and don't veer into adult contemporary territory) are not on there. They are "When It's Love" by Van Halen and "Hysteria" by Def Leppard. The keyboards and dual guitars, respectively, elevate them above usual power ballads.

I love a lot of the songs on that list. My favourites must be Tears of the Dragon, Still Loving You, The Show Must Go On, Cryin' and Wish You Were Here. Can't narrow it down to one of them, though.

those words should never be uttered:banghead:

--------------------------------------

but back to the topic at hand

My all time Power Ballad is Meatloaf Bat Out Of Hell

The score and sound of the song is as pure and powerful as a Harley Davidson original fat boy (which is also a proper description of Meatloaf's vocals), and the lyrics are just as powerful and moving.

Though the entire album is chock full of great ballads and the album in its entirety could be considered a great power ballad from front to back
