Default In Utero 20th Anniversery

Did you guys know that it's the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's album, In Utero? I only just got the album sent to me by a friend, but I've listened to it. I really like it but sometimes the noise can get a bit annoying. What do you guys think?

It's not their best album, but when the competition is Nevermind, don't expect to take gold. This album was actually really well written in my opinion, especially compared to the rest of their catalog.

I was on their mailing list at the time.

I remember they sent me a poster advertising Pennyroyal Tea as the forthcoming single a couple of weeks before Cobain died.
I think I still have it, I wonder if it's worth anything seeing the single was withdrawn.

That would be worth a lot. I went to a record store and they had a poster advertising a show that would've taken place after Cobain died, and the poster had been distributed just before he passed away. I'm pretty sure its worth was nearly up to $1000. I thought that was insane.

I couldn't remember how this went so I went to youtube. Its kind of funny what passed for legit lyrics then. If anyone had written that today, I would have no time for it.

Its also odd that such irreverent lyrics and wholly crushing depression took hold that strongly with the young kids. I mean, its weird to think that many people signed up to be depressed.

Had to be there I guess.

I'm on my time with everyone
I have very bad posture

I sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
Distill the life that's inside of me
I sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
I'm anemic royalty

Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld
So I can sigh eternally

I'm so tired I can't sleep
I'm anemic royalty
I'm a liar and a thief
I'm anemic royalty

I'm on warm milk and laxatives
Cherry flavored antacids

I sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
Distill the life that's inside of me
I sit and drink Pennyroyal Tea
I'm anemic royalty

In fairness it was replacing this sort of thing...

Swingin' on the front porch
Swingin' on the lawn
Swingin' where we want
'Cause there ain't nobody home
Swingin' to the left
And swingin' to the right
If I think about baseball
I'll swing all night yea

Swingin' in the living room
Swingin' in the kitchen
Most folks don't 'cause
They're too busy bitchin'
Swingin' in there 'cause
She wanted me to feed her
So I mixed up the batter
And she licked the beater

I scream you scream
We all scream for her
Don't even try 'cause
You can't ignore her

She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water
Such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good
Make a grown man cry
Sweet cherry pie oh yea
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie

Swingin' to the drums
Swingin' to guitar
Swingin' to the bass
In the back of my car
Ain't got money
Ain't got no gas
But we'll get where
We're goin' if we
Swing real fast

I scream you scream
We all scream for her
Don't even try 'cause
You can't ignore her

She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water
Such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good
Make a grown man cry
Sweet cherry pie oh yea
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie, yeah, pie

Swing it! All night long,
Swing it!
Swingin the bathroom
Swingin' on the floor
Swingin' so hard
We forgot to lock the door
In walks her daddy
Standin' six foot four
He said you ain't gonna swing
With my daughter no more

She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water
Such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good
Make a grown man cry
Sweet cherry pie oh yea
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie
Sweet cherry pie

such a well produced album too.. the guitar sounds great and the drums sound amazing! Albini did his thing..

the sound reminds me a little of the surfer rosa album by the pixies it has like a raw refined sound to it that is very loud and powerful
again could not agree more....this album in more ways than one set in stone my musical preference as far as rock music is concerned

yeah that was me at 17 ....i can honestly say that the first Nirvana song i ever heard was the B side to Smells Like Teen Spirit....Even In His Youth

i think it's kind of unfortunate all of this stuff was released on the box set a few years back....save the live show

personally not much of a collector anymore but this makes a great gift for a friend of mine
