Opeth
thursday i went to see Opeth in Philly and they were sooooo amazing.. :yeah:
has anyone else heard of them/saw them live? |
I haven't but I went to iTunes and previewed a couple of the songs. They're pretty good but a lil harsh for my tastes. Where did you see them? I used to live in the Philly area and it so sounds like a show at the Troc.
|
Oh god, I was supposed to see them last night, but I had to finish a history term paper... blech. They're amazing. (And their stuff isn't completely harsh - their singer does the shift from clean guitar and good singing to harshness and growling very nicely).
|
ah yes, it was a show at the troc. very good.
i agree abakubub (very original name) :-p |
Woot! I know my Philly venues!
|
Opeth=OK
|
The did Blackwater Park right? If so then I like them alot, even though their songs are epics...but its still good.
|
yea they did do blackwater park :-)
|
Opeth is a great band, IMO. My favorite album by them is Blackwater Park. Best song has to be Bleak.
|
i liek one of their songs... but its the only one ive ever heard.
|
Opeth
Any Opeth fans here at all?
I've just seen them for the 4th time and they never dissapoint! |
Theyre just a bit too weird for my liking.
|
I'll be honest it took me a while to get into them. Then I saw them live and it was an amazing show...then Steven Wilson started working with then and I loved the results. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan. Technically, the music is complex and brilliant. But I certainly understand that they are an acquired taste for many.
|
I like them.

appreciated.
|
not a huge fan tbh but im going to see them in glasgow on the 27th i think
|
They are ok, can be a little long-winded for my liking sometimes. Still a good band no less.
|
I still need Still Life, I can't seem to find that album anywhere...
Orchid and My Arms, Your Hearse are my favorites out of all the others. |
I haven't heard of them. What type of music are they?

I ordered my still life online. |

Technically, the are considered a death/black metal band...slowly moving toward progressive metal. As Steven Wilson puts it: "moments of incredible beauty and moments of incredible brutality" I think that sums it up. |
They are quite different bandwise. I love the song Sillouhette (sp?), it's just a piano playing but it's so dark and eerie like them.
|
Opeth
Any Opeth fans here? Best talk about them than crappy limp bizkit on this forum anyway!
I prefer the mid sort of stuff, but the newer stuff is god too. Still Life and Blackwater Park are great, but prob Deliverance is the one I like most. Well they are all fairly interesting in their own ways... Havent yet seen them live, sold out in Nov so I couldnt go >: ( |
Great band. Morningrise is probably my favorite album, mainly due to it have To Bid You Farewell and Black Rose Immortal.
What do you think about Ghost Reveries? I think it has it's moments. Ghost of Perdition is a great song. |
I like Atonment cos it has sort of eastern style melodies, also Revirie/ is cool.
Its an ok album, just find it a bit lower in tempo than the older ones. Still has the atmosphere which is good. |
Yeah Atonement is good. Reverie/Harlequin Forest is good musically but the lyrics just kill it for me. I don't think the riffage on GR is as good as on previous albums.
|
Opeth.
Is. Amazing. |
Still Life and Damnation are my favorites
|
i think ghost reveries has been their best album so far
it is so inspirational and i love it best song is probably The Grand Conjuration |
I could have sworn there was already a thread on these guys. Maybe I'm wrong? Good band, though.
|
Yay an Opeth thread. They're my favourite metal band besides Iron Maiden. The music is just so perfect. Akerfeldt is a god. Anyway, my fav album is probably Blackwater Park, but all of their stuff is good. And Ghost Reveries is a great album.
|
Damn straight they are awesome. Damnation = sex in ears.
|
Orchid and My Arms, Your Hearse are my favorites.
I still haven't gotten around to listening to the new one yet. Anyone get that DVD? |
good music, vocals turn me off though.
|
Opeth are great. One of the few bands that utilize the cookie monster style vocals that I can really stand at all, much less enjoy.
