I can understand you saying that for Minutes to Midnight but Meteora was a really solid effort from them.

My main beef with Linking park is the rock chorus and the rap verse, i don't like the way they use the formula, it's too common for my taste.

However i like when chino raps in some deftones songs, he's both guys from Linking park AND a better singer than both.

^ oh gross the Deftones are very bad ew ew ew

:nono:

I like the Deftones but there is no way that Chino raps better than Mike Shinoda. I guess you haven't heard Fort Minor's album.

Carpe Mortem 04-12-2014 07:58 PM

I dig Deftones... do not dig more than one or two Linkin Park songs.

If there were a poll, I think Deftones would win.

Deftones: 1

Xurtio 04-12-2014 08:03 PM

Deftones: 2

Next time you listen to Linkin Park's I tried So hard, imagine it's about him auditioning for a role in Metallica.

On a related story, i was once constipated for like 2 weeks and it ain't fun!
It's f*cking depressing to feel that knot in your stomach and not be able to 'flush it out' as Metallica would say,

x2. I am also outraged you would do such a thing Francis.
Somewhere I Belong was like my teenage anthem.

I don't actually own that album my sisters did, and I stole it from them.

Alice in Chains 04-13-2014 12:14 AM

The Beatles.
Second though, is Breaking Benjamin.

My all time favorite band is The Rolling Stones. I've been a fan as far as I can remember. I think I was drawn to them because I thought their songs were a bit sad especially their early stuff.

Hey, im just pointing out the obvious, i think 1 good deftones song is worth 20 Linking Park crappy ones.

I'm not quite sure how this happened, but my tastes are almost exclusively retro, with the exception of the Meat Puppets...

...otherwise, it's predominantly the Grateful Dead and Floyd Attachment 5568 , then everything else, which includes The Doors; CSNY; Zep; early REM; everything Smiths (!); the Pistols; and Dead Kennedys; as well as a lot Romantic era classical (but that's another thread!)

I'm the same way. I used to hate Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, but I've grown to like them more than their earlier material. Living Things is great as well.

Actually, I listened to Hybrid Theory recently and cringed hard at the whiny, juvenile lyrics. When you think about it, they basically were the family friendly version of Limp Bizkit during their heyday.

Interesting choices: zep, the who, genesis, and def leppard..the only one I really disagree with is Kansas. I can't bear to listen to a Kansas song other than carry on wayward son once per day.

I practically grew up with Kansas. I guess they're the ones who got me into prog, not to mention Steve's voice is stunning.

Necromancer 04-19-2014 08:06 PM

I could actually bear listening to their single, Portrait (He Knew). Portrait's always been my favorite song by Kansas anyway. Carry On My Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind have been so overplayed through the years. Not something I would be looking forward listening to any time soon.

Puffnstuff 04-20-2014 04:15 AM

I like Kansas however I have to be in the mood for them.

Steely Dan

Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, and their style of jazz fusion.

Each of their various albums have their own unique sound and personality.

Musically, they cross so many different barriers and thresholds in most all of the genres.
Versatility is not one of their weak points.

Their studio recordings and production has withstood the test of time. They have always been perfectionist in the studio, and their recordings are still just as good as anything out there today.

Big fan of the Dan. Aja being one of my favorite albums of the ones I've heard. I haven't heard Two Against Nature, or Everything Must Go yet.

Necromancer 04-20-2014 08:55 AM

Everything Must Go has two or three decent songs on it. Everything Must Go is also the title track to one of the better songs. I find most of their later albums are not nearly as good as some of their earlier stuff.

I kind of figured they'd lost some of their spark. I'll still check em out when I get the chance. Listening to Aja right now getting ready for the Easter festivities, it brings me back to hiking through the woods on a mountain in Germany. Thats around the time I first discovered this gem, thanks to a roomy with good taste in music. He'd be reading two books at the same time, while listening to Steely, Bowie, Zappa, or Neil Young.

Necromancer 04-20-2014 09:19 AM

Its the same way with me, when you get the connection of memories with the earlier albums, its hard not to be biased.
Aja is one of their best all-around albums, and one of my favorite singles as well.
It seemed like they had perfect timing with the release of Aja. The funk vibe and style just seemed to fit in perfect with what was being played on mainstream radio at that time. Songs like Jose for example, Black Cow, and so on, got a lot of airplay on the radio for over a decade or so. Along with two or three other songs that were also popular from the album.
