You're confusing marketing and popularity here with influence. Influence is the type of bands that other bands would've listened to when they got started, which makes both Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden for example easily two of the most influential.

I wouldn't say they're entirely unrelated though. Tbh if Sabbath wasn't on the list I'd say it's a tie between Purple and Metallica.
