Stoner/Desert Rock and Metal
Per a devious request... post that sh!t here.
I'll start with a song/band I've been pretty obsessed with lately. |
How this band didn't make it I will never know :(

Full album now on youtube as of yesterday, makes you want a fleet of motorcycles and a fifth of whiskey. Blowing Electric Wizard's new one out of the water.

Ancestors for me lately. First Light from In Dreams & Time may be my favourite track in the entire genre.

Cant really believe how this thread has so few answers. Just made my account now to start bumping this, i hope.
Well, since is my nowadays favorite types of metal, i would add: Kyuss (ofc) Hermano Rainbows Are Free Been Obscene Valley of The Sun Sasquatch Year Long Disaster Kadavar Stubb Slo Burn The Kings of Frog Island Radar Men From The Moon Baroness Stoned Jesus Vista Chino Colour Haze Brain Police Dead Meadow Witch Roadsaw Red Octopus Black Pistol Fire My Sleeping Karma The Black Angels But really gotta dig up Earthless (already mentioned in this thread) and Black Bombaim. Earthless is by far the best, imo. My list includes many different genres, from psychedelic rock to stoner, and i believe most of the bands you already know. Anyway, glad if i can bring something new and contribute to make this thread longer! |
I really like southern style stoner metal more than the traditional style from bands like Sleep or Electric Wizard. Bands like Weedeater and Bongzilla or Mountain Goat are good examples which I can't link quite yet.

I enjoy Kyuss and qotsa, but I need to go deeper into the genre.

Acid King is among the heaviest bands I've heard in all of metal. They're close to death/doom, Coffins-level heaviness, but they got that psychedelic feel too. Just imagine Jimi Hendrix playing "Machine Gun" only at sludge and drone-ish, slow doom tempos and with 4x as much distortion.
Anyway, Busse Woods is a must have, though their early EPs are worth checking out too: I keep editing this, but I wanted to add "Tank," because that one is monstrous. |
