avenged sevenfolds old stuff is awesome imo. listen to their album "waking the fallen".
its not the hard rock stuff you hear today. its more metalcore.

Comparing those two is a disgrace IMO.
Megadeath have had a series of great albums, and they have had a consistent success when making great songs. AV7X is just cheesy, Even some of their older stuff was too but City Of Evil was beyond cheesy.
And Megadeath has accomplished so much more than AV7X, Comparing these two is liek comparing Guns N' Roses to Nirvana....(bad comparison but you get my point.)

Comparing things can also be used to determine the differences. It isn't the comparing that is wrong. However, if one concludes certain similarities based on comparison that could be seen as wrong.

They've also kept essentially the same sound since the beginning, which is a big way that Avenged Sevenfold has differed. They've reinvented themselves a few times over the years, moving through hardcore, epic thrash metal, and alternative rock. I don't see too much of a connection.
None of the members of Megadeth at that time were jazz trained. Maybe you're getting that from the lessons Mustaine god after he recovered from his arm injury as part of his physio therapy or you could be mixing Friedman up with Chris Poland who is a jazz player and was the guitarist in Megadeth for the first 2 albums, so a little of Poland's style may have rubbed off on Mustaine. He left during the Demo sessions for Rust in Peace.

I think Nick Menza started out playing jazz.

Not really a fan of either, but I'm sure A7X is ripping off every metal band from the 80's.
