Megadeth is an interesting band; I believe the rhythm section (at least during the Rust In Peace era, not sure of any lineup changes) was jazz-trained, lending intricacy and sophisticated-ness to the music. Their lyrics are consistently political, and Dave Mustaine has one of the most unique voices in metal. They've also kept essentially the same sound since the beginning, which is a big way that Avenged Sevenfold has differed. They've reinvented themselves a few times over the years, moving through hardcore, epic thrash metal, and alternative rock. I don't see too much of a connection.

None of the members of Megadeth at that time were jazz trained. Maybe you're getting that from the lessons Mustaine god after he recovered from his arm injury as part of his physio therapy or you could be mixing Friedman up with Chris Poland who is a jazz player and was the guitarist in Megadeth for the first 2 albums, so a little of Poland's style may have rubbed off on Mustaine. He left during the Demo sessions for Rust in Peace.
