I think everyone else has pretty much already summed up why they're great to listen to. But I recommended them because they're a great "oldies" band to get into, if you're having a hard time finding a gateway band into the sixties. Their raw, minimalist approach makes their music timeless. As long as people have emotions, and a concept of music, they'll get a kick out of Gerie Roslie's screaming, you know? It's just good, old fashioned, gimmick-free music, and since they had no budget for studio enhancement, you're basically hearing the music as it was played. Powerful stuff.

Plus, 90% of the songs are covers so if you want to get into more older music you can just look up the artists they covered.

Yeah, that's true. Everyone loves "Money", "Do You Love Me?", "Good Golly Miss Molly", etc.

While I love metal, I kind of feel this way as well. Regular rock and hard rock resonate more with me these days. Maybe it's the songs not being as long and having more melodies is the reason why.

This particular thread brings to mind at how the 60s and 70s UK bands seem to rule in the R&B/blues rock category.

American bands seem to be more on the heavier side of rock and metal, more so than the UK bands have, especially during the past two or three decades.

I think European bands have ruled the genre IMO.

Maybe I have just been listening to too much American music only.

80% of my music is European, most of the metal bands being European. I will say that there are a few honorable American metal bands (Not counting metalcore of course) that I listen to.

I still don't go a day without metal. But when I want something less abrasive I'll tone it down to rock. Arguably it's still abrasive because it's not necessarily easy listening.

To make it short and sweet, the gist of my sentiment is.
Instrumentals = metal. Singing = rock.
