Whoa!

Been following this girl for a couple of years and she never fails to blow my mind.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-07-2015 11:32 AM

Someone needs to smack her around the head and tell her playing music isn't like playing a video game.

Key 03-07-2015 11:39 AM

And she chose that song why? I mean, she's not bad, but man, go with something else.

Chula Vista 03-07-2015 11:49 AM

Tough crowd.

Better?

This girl is for real.

Chula Vista 03-07-2015 11:55 AM

She's obviously a savant. The way she plays Comfortably Numb makes me shed a tear.

The Batlord 03-07-2015 12:15 PM

No offense against her. Dragonforce is just ass.

Here's another to have tears swell up in your eyes. This one is covered by Sylwia Urban (perhaps Urban's sister or cousin?). She nails it. She plays on what looks like a FRS(?) Strat with one pick up, hums badly in the beginning but sounds amazing once she starts playing.
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (Sylwia Urban)

I think Violet Deliriums has a decent taste in music and her song choices are sometimes least likely to be covered. This song is "The Comb" by The Waitresses. The backing track is a low volume of the original song that doesn't come in too clear, but she has decent chops.

Good stuff. But I think we can agree, Tina is on a whole nother level.

...but Sylwia Urban had better tone and articulated the note closer to the original. I think her solo comes closer to David Gilmore's solo. Her choice in guitar and gear helps in translating how and what she plays, there's more feeling and depth in her solo. Tina S.' version sounds more like Gilbert playing Gilmore.

Great tone but she keeps getting behind the beat which is distracting.

Singing behind the beat really annoys me, especially in jazz. The only time it works for me is when the singer fits in an extra syllable and has to catch up, like Roger Daltrey on "My Generation".

Here's a song that I feel would have been much better if it was sung on the beat.

That said, the lyrics, melody, and general flow are so breathtakingly beautiful that every time I've tried to make a list of my favourite songs, this ends up in the top ten.

Frownland 03-08-2015 08:01 AM

Oh look, another musician who has a lot of talent on guitar but wastes it on in creative bs.

Is she related to Yngwie?

Are you trying to say that "Through the Fire and the Flames" is not an avant garde masterpiece?

It certainly is a very challenging listen.

I got through about forty seconds of it before I realized that no matter how well she played, I was still listening to Dragonforce.

Says the dude who gets on stage and bangs kitchen utensils together.

:D

The Batlord 03-08-2015 11:14 AM

Better that than Dragonforce.

You're just jealous that you didn't think of it first.

And I play my instruments using a fork. Only a dumbass would bang them together.

Key 03-08-2015 11:21 AM

I've come around to Frownland's music. I can say I genuinely enjoy it now.

Much better than Dragonforce. Had to finish listening to the song before exiting the thread.

If you heard 40seconds of one Dragonforce song you've heard every Dragonforce song.

Janszoon 04-24-2015 04:53 AM

She's certainly technically proficient. I'm not hearing anything else beyond that though.

EPOCH6 04-24-2015 11:08 AM

My mother actually showed me this chick's go at Eruption last time I went over to her place for coffee. It's messy to criticize these kinds of players, or even assume they are the kind of player we think they are, but it really is unfortunate to think there are a lot of players out there like this chick (although we could be wrong about her) who are absolutely fantastic at emulating prodigies but have no original material. Urban's comment "music isn't a video game" actually phrases it quite well. All of these viral videos of stone faced children playing immensely complex songs... it's like their musical lives only revolve around conquering milestones, mastering sheets, nailing classics, but none of the milestones involve writing new music. 7 years of progress videos, not one of her jamming with other musicians, performing, or playing something she wrote. Maybe there's another channel for her band or something, I find it so hard to believe that people this great at an instrument, with this much theoretical knowledge of several styles, can make it through 7 years of playing without writing something awesome.

Chula Vista 04-24-2015 11:18 AM

Well, she is still only 15. I'm gonna cut her some slack and hope that as she matures she takes it somewhere original.

EVH was 8 years older than her when he recorded Eruption.

Plankton 04-24-2015 11:20 AM

I was looking for something original from Lucciano Pizzichini, and can't really find anything, but he's one of the most notable prodigy's in the music scene today. He plays with more feeling than anyone mentioned here so far.

Frownland 04-24-2015 11:20 AM

^Great minds, Plank.

There's some hope yet, this kid is largely improvising.

Chula Vista 04-24-2015 11:23 AM

Holy crap.

I think with complete dedication to the guitar, this kid could be immensely better than the girl in the OP by the time he's 15. If he's improvising, he's already got one up on the girl. But we're not around her, obviously. So can't say for certain that she doesn't practice original material when she isn't filming herself play someone else's music. But if she's made 7 years of videos, and none is of her playing original songs...I'm not going to be surprised if she only practices music she's heard or likes, or that she knows people consider technical.

The kid in the video Frownland posted, he's already being smart playing improvisational music, it'll help him out as he continues playing a lot. I'm more impressed by this kid, than the girl.

Plankton 04-24-2015 11:28 AM

He was born in 2000.

So, already 15 then. I think I will look up new videos of him.

EPOCH6 04-24-2015 11:30 AM

Prodigy Wars.

Plankton 04-24-2015 11:32 AM

That'd be a short thread.

Wait.

The other one's are too.

This kid is insane. Ya still gotta wonder how much the parents have forced the music on these kids.

Indeed.

But I bet this kid could come up with something better than the girl could in a battle of coming up with something on the spot.

I even like that little dude better, and his face ins't stone cold, as if he's bored of what he's playing, like that girl was.

Derek is the nephew of original Allman Brothers Band member Butch Trucks, so the Duane Allman influence makes sense.

Joe B is amazing but Gary Moore is the king of that style.

Older Derek. Love how he milks the notes between the notes.
