Metal isn't sexist at all, just not many females are into this style. The genre of metal is highly aggressive and is a very appealing to people with that higher level of testosterone, so maybe that is why they don't like it so much? Many of my female mates love metal, and they are that bit more aggressive than average so that is my theory.

Obviously not metal, but Janet Weiss, Carla Azar, Moe Tucker.

I have no doubt that in less strenuous genres a female drummer would be perfectly capable, but...

You can skip to about :30 if you don't want to watch the camera shooting his feet for no apparent reason.

Fair enough. That said, I'm sure there are good female metal drummers, but I don't know enough metal to name any.

It'd be kind of weird if there was an entire genre of music that was inherently sexist, it's like anything else take it on a case by case basis. That said I've met plenty of sexist metal heads (and fans of other genres of music) who wouldn't ever take a woman in a band as seriously as they would a man. Or who just have nasty opinions, IE:

I mean, how is that not a discouraging mentality?

I'm not saying all women WD, but I definitely know far more women whose only interests are friends and her bf than men. Its a dependence thing, generally women aren't independent enough to enjoy and study a hobby on their own without constant reassurance that they're killin it. Maybe that will change, it being a new world and all, but biology, son.

Also it is so not nice to call someone else's opinion nasty. Shame on you, I would've thought a transvestite transsexual whatever you are would be more open minded.

I doubt biology has much to do with it. I'd wager it has more to do with social structures that have been built around people's sex and aren't in all cases entirely if at all representative of what a person's capabilities are.

You're right, nasty is an instigating word to use in that context. But, I don't see how the opinion you shared is conducive towards a more inclusive culture that I admittedly know very little about- from a distance it definitely seems to prefer what might be considered a masculine presence and I suppose that's something to be respected. Also you kinda contradicted yourself because you did say womankind, which I figure was probably just not thought all the way through.

And it's quiiiiiite a bit different in the midwest than in SF, so it's easy to see why Carpe would think that way. She's not even saying that they're uncapable either, just that she hasn't seen many cases where women are as passionate about something as music as a man could be unless it's her significant other or her bffs. I totally get where she's coming from having lived in a small town, around 75% of the girls there fit that description.
