I genuinely enjoy their four Belladonna albums a whole lot.

The Batlord 11-18-2015 02:13 PM

Never actually listened to State of Euphoria beyond "Anti-Social", but you honestly like Persistence of Time? I mean, it's got some great songs, but as a whole it's just dull.

Mondo Bungle 11-18-2015 02:25 PM

I thought people generally saw it as their best. It's their heaviest and doesn't let up. I wouldn't call it dull but it does trudge on a bit. State of Euphoria was always another contender for favorite even though people always say it's weak. "Be All, End All" is my fav track by them and the whole thing's got like 5 other bangers for me

Oh ****, I forgot about that song. That was a serious favorite of mine for a long time.

Frownland 11-18-2015 06:02 PM

State of Euphoria is tied with Among the Living for me as their best.

I doubt that anything Anthrax ever did was as amazing as Spreading the Disease. Among the Living and Persistence of Time certainly weren't. They never went back to that half-thrash/half-trad metal sound and it was just one of the best metal sounds I've ever heard, even if the songwriting wasn't quite as strong as their later albums.

It's tight

Tristan_Geoff 11-18-2015 08:57 PM

Haven't heard much of it yet (or extrme metal of this caliber really), but the new Revenge record seems really promising.

Anthrax is a hard band to choose a favorite album from.

As long as you don't pick the debut or Persistence of time, we are cool.

I do like Sound of White noise better than PoT

Between the Buried and Me - Coma Ecliptic

I do love their self-titled, Colors, and what I've heard from the Silent Circus. How does it compare to those?

Mondo Bungle 01-11-2016 05:37 PM

omg yes. The Voivod/Amebix supergroup Tau Cross released their album a while ago but I didn't find out about it then. I was stoking hard on it though, and it doesn't disappoint. Obviously a sound akin to Amebix + Voivod, with all kinds of post punk and Killing Joke.

Alcest - Les Voyages De L'Âme (2012) is pretty sweet. I especially like the intro track as well as "Faiseurs De Mondes", which has a great outro riff.

I thought Coma Ecliptic was pretty good - reminded me a lot of Faith No More. Some great tracks and others not as good.

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops

http://www.shop.rottenrecords.com/wp...StringPops.jpg

I tend to start albums at track 1 and then just go until I feel like listening to something else, so I'm not as familiar with the second half of this as I'd like. I'm gonna be starting this, starting at track 7, "Dr. Seuss Is Dead", for a while, just so I'll be able to fully appreciate this album's brilliance as it should be appreciated. God it's so good.

Mondo Bungle 01-23-2016 07:19 PM

Wow that's amazing. I used to always do 1-6 with that album. I'd always consider it two halves and play the first over and over. One day came that I would listen and pay attention to Dr Seuss is Dead for the first time, and now it's all about the second half. That's my favorite Acid Bath track and that plus Dope Fiend plus Toubabo Looming is like my favorite trifecta of consecutive songs ever.

I can't think of a bad song on that album, and I'm not just saying that. If I've neglected the second half, it's just because it's impossible to follow up "Scream of the Butterfly" which is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. But "Dr. Seuss Is Dead" is definitely one of the absolute greatest sludge metal songs ever recorded, along with pretty much every other song on that album.

But "Scream of the Butterfly" is still the star. That is one of the only songs that I can play on repeat over and over for hours and never get tired of. I think it's just one of the greatest testaments to Dax Riggs' lyrical abilities. The subject matter puts 99.9% of extreme metal to shame, while being creepy and dark in a way that no death metal band could ever be. Dax is just a ****ing genius.

Mondo Bungle 01-29-2016 11:35 PM

I prefer Bones over Scream personally

TheLhix 01-30-2016 10:34 AM

I am very classic. I am slowly realizing haha. Love the stuff though, lots of never-before-heard music.

I am digging Gorgoroth - Pentagram and Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy at the moment.

How does it feel to be wrong yet again? "Scream of the Butterfly" is just so gloriously creepy. I've literally put this song on repeat for at least an hour many times and never gotten tired of it.

I really see this being a strong contender for metal AOTY. SSOS played hardcore punk and metalcore inspired sludge metal, but have gone full metal with the new album. It still is plentiful with heavy breakdowns, but in a totally sludged out way. This is fantastic and monstrous.

This band seems to somehow top themselves with each release, even if the one before was already titanically amazing. One of the great metal bands of this age, and one of the best around at merging psychedelia and metal.

Key 02-10-2016 08:31 PM

So I've been listening to Disturbed's new album "Immortalized". I've never been a big fan of Disturbed but this is a fantastic album.

Now I see why LiL left you.

SatoshiNak 02-12-2016 09:08 AM

I've really been digging Ghoul's Splatterthrash album as of late, not a big fan of much newer thrash but this band is made up of a couple members from Impaled whose album Mondo Medicale is pretty sick

Mondo Bungle 02-23-2016 05:14 PM

This is the best black metal album I've ever heard.

I'd known about it for a long time and always put off listening to it, even though it'd always find mention while I search for new music. It didn't have very good reviews on average at the metal archives but then again those guys are just lame all around, and I've regretted not listening to a lot of albums sooner based on poor scores from there. Reviews and ratings really shouldn't mean much of anything to be honest, you have your own ears I'm pretty sure.

Only just listened for the first time last weekend and was blown away twelve times over. And it was so good I wouldn't hesitate to call it my new favorite. It's completely original yet building off foundations already laid in black metal all at the same time. From severely hypnotic drones and riff repetition to gloriously epic slaying.

100/100

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-23-2016 06:19 PM

^ Was actually just going to post looking for Black Metal recs in the recommendation thread, I'll be checking that one out asap.

grindy 02-23-2016 11:00 PM

^One of my absolute faves as well. They did everything right.

Mondo Bungle 05-24-2016 05:38 PM

"My eyes were jaded, so close to the center I could not see"

Something about the very first line of this album. It's chilling. Though it's not any super distinct style, the way it's sung seems o effective, the way it just slithers in there. The vocals, the lyrics, **** cuts deep. It does a more than amazing and perfect job setting the tone for what you're about to experience over the next our or so.

CharlieEngen 05-27-2016 08:14 PM

I've been on a Native Construct kick, really cool stuff!

Mondo Bungle 08-12-2016 07:11 PM

I love this album so much it doesn't even make sense

It's another example of perfectly executed black metal IMO, and in a genre full of snow boners, Drudkh are distinct with the Autumn themes. At the same time they create totally unique sounding and fitting riffs, with the deeply warm tone, it's definitely top caliber bm guitar work. It's also repetitive but not to massive degrees, it's just a 40 minute album, and it features some amazing moments.

Mondo Bungle 09-06-2016 04:52 PM

there's one of the best black metal albums released from the last few years I think. It's super pretty and super French (a Neige project, sounding like "Murmuüre + Alcest + Peste Noire", someone said that on RYM and I like it)

I like this as fuck.

Mondo Bungle 12-11-2016 05:43 PM

Even though there's badass technical, melodic, and blackened death metal albums out there, listening to one that is literally a top notch example of all three is like a revelation

kudos
