Yes and no, I studied classical violin for several years but I'm out of practice for well over 20 years.
The technical ability wasn't what I had an issue with it was more than they did nothing with it. That could have came out in 1987 and still sounded dated then.

Didn't say that. Plenty of people who don't play like AAL. Was just curious about Urban.

What's your opinion of the track?

I don't dislike it or anything, but it basically sounds like watered-down Meshuggah with a bunch of solos getting in the way of the whole point of the song.

Does sound Meshuggah. Not watered down though IMO.

Hey, to each his own. That's the beauty of having 72,456 genres of metal.

Have you heard the new Liturgy album, Urban? Pretty dynamic imo.

I also like Ehnahre's sound, worth a shot.

I overcame my aversion to metal last October, thanks to TH and Briks, but I really don't find myself going there anymore. I find that there aren't times I want to listen to it; other genres (punk, garage rock, etc.) satisfy my desire for aggression and noise better than metal.

(I haven't read this thread yet except for the first and last pages, so apologies if this has already been said.)

Cool, figured you had some sort of training based on a few of your comments, but couldn't figure which instrument.

I say that because they're clearly influenced by Meshuggah, but Meshuggah's whole plan is to create as crushing and robotic a sound as possible, intentionally cutting out as much melody as possible, and all those free-flying solos get in the way of that by pushing the core sound into the background. It just sounded like the band wanted to have their cake (Meshuggah-esque brutality) and eat it too (play their self-indulgent solos). If that's your thing, then great, but to me Animals as Leaders were just adding pointless touches to a sound that didn't need it.
