There were a ton of ****ty bands in the 80s. The Police is not a ****ty band, no matter how you spin it. Therefore, yes, the Police is better than all of the ****ty garbage 80s bands, which I estimated to be about 90%. Even then, I think they're better than most decent 80's bands.

EDIT- What I mean to say is that The Police are in the 90th percentile at least. I can't really provide any "studies" arguing for this.
