I kinda agree with both of you.
On one hand, yeah, Post-Punk went into all kinds of directions from Punk. On the other hand I do have a relatively distinct sound in my head when thinking of Post-Punk: Punkish, but less shouty vocals, angular, less distorted guitar, a jumping, prominent bass, a somewhat funky, hypnotic drum beat.
