Yeah, to me they're pretty much just Hard Rock from the South. Nothing unique or interesting there.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Damn the Torpedoes

(I like Tom Petty, however I never considered him Country Rock. I heard of him being considered as part of the "back to the basic of Rock n Roll movement." I thought Damn the Torpedoes was a mix of old and new (for the time) the sound of 60s electric Bob Dylan and 70s Power Pop. Never once thought of it as "Country Rock." - sorry TLP )

Also not surprised to see American Beauty votes this early on, The Grateful Dead are notoriously love/hate. I do believe Workingman's Dead would have had a stronger chance at winning this series, it certainly would have placed higher on my list. From my experience playing GD tunes around people that aren't fans Workingman's Dead is the more accessible of the two. That being said I don't see any problem with nominating American Beauty, it's equally as country-rock as Workingman's Dead, just in a different way... it sounds more like what people think the Grateful Dead sound like if that makes any sense.

Maybe it was people hyping as the greatest, but when I heard them I couldn't see them as the greatest, so I pass getting into their stuff. I don't know all of the criteria that goes into picking bands, but I would rather have seen either The Band, CCR or Gram Parsons instead of Grateful Dead.

@The Band We already used their best albums in other lists, @CCR Meh, we already have Cosmo's Factory, and their audience is similarly love/hate (in my experience) to TGD, @Gram Parsons never listened to his solo stuff so I'll have to see.
