So, let me get this straight... if you like an artists lyrics, then they're talented. If you don't like an artists lyrics, then they're not talented?

Yes, many ****ty bands got signed. But your GnR boasting is comical. Slash would **** his pants if he had to hang with a lot of his pears from that era.

Who said hate? It's all perspective.

Your dissing on Reb almost completely destroys your validity in this thread (for me). I can diss on a muso, but fully appreciate their talents. Seems you can't.

Never thought I'd enjoy reading a GNR thread that much.

I didn't demean Winger in any way, shape or form- read again. In fact, I enjoy some of Wingers music. But the statement that they are 10X more talented than GNR kills YOUR credibility with me, it's just silly. I don't know why Slash would be hanging around with "pears". All I know is that Slash is still playing big gigs while many of his "peers" are playing the ****hole bar down the street. Not an indicator of talent, by any means, but a sure measure of popularity. I'm not sure that people are as stupid as you think they are- I've never paid money to see a bad guitarist or a pretender, I pay to see the ones I like. Whether they are 'good" or not is pretty subjective.
And the prize is a membership to the Steve Hoffman forums.

I guess I should've said songwriting, so let me rephrase that:

If you like an artists songwriting, then they're talented. If you don't like an artists songwriting, then they're not talented?

So you're saying that popularity is a good indicator of talent? I don't trust the hive mind of the casual music listener to determine which artists are the most talented.

It can be, but it's not 100%. I think that the cream generally rises to the top most of the time but there are exceptions. What people like is not always based on talent but what sounds good to them. It's a different discussion, really. And the casual listeners are usually the ones who determine who becomes popular, not the hard-core, well-informed music nut.
