Now that I'm aware of that... I don't know your tastes, but I think Slayer are worth a chance for anyone with an appreciation of loud music. I do like Dick Dale. And I do like bands that don't take themselves seriously. Might try them again at some point.

You should check out Venom if you haven't. They're the main inspiration for Slayer and almost impossible to mistake for being a serious band.

Hell Awaits. This album is epic, from the opening self titled track to At Dawn They Sleep, Praise of Death, Necrophiliac, and Crypts of Eternity this album is a masterpiece. Some of my favorite live Slayer moments would be Crypts of Eternity and At Dawn They Sleep filmed at Eindhoven in 85 and then Praise of Death and Necrophiliac at the Ritz show in 86. It is really hard for me to list a favorite Slayer album out of the first four albums as they each have different aspects which make me love them all but Hell Awaits and its songs are just epic, got to love at the end of Necrophiliac when Tom sings "Lucifer takes my dark soul, down, to the fiery pits of Hell, down, to the fiery pits of HELL!!!"

South of Heaven. Props to them for slowing down their sound and sounding threatening in a different way. Rather than rip you to death unexpectedly like on Reign in Blood, they'd rather hunt you though the dark streets and make you anticipate your own death.

Show No Mercy for me. Would have voted Haunting the Chapel if it wasn't a short ep. And for whom ever stated that South Of Heaven was their jam on that album, you are losing it. Ghosts Of War is the apex song on that album and the only song up to speed with previous Slayer incarnations.

Dude, "Spill the Blood" is clearly the standout, though it would be bettered and perfected by "Seasons in the Abyss" on their next album.

Exactly. I love that echo and their soloing isn't that messy.

That slow, chugging riff in "South of Heaven" puts it over the top. There is not a bad song on that album though.

"Seasons" is their best song. It's hypnotic, and every second is utilized perfectly.

You've summed up my feelings exactly. Zero, I don't know if I ever told you this but I feel like our taste in music is identical.

For most Slayer albums, I've kind of got to be in a Slayer mood - but I can pop on South of Heaven anytime.

I typically avoid their later albums, but I can't say I've ever given them much of a chance - does anyone think they are worthwhile?
