Why are people so divided about Rammstein?

Whenever I mention Rammstein to someone, they are either EXTREMELY hateful towards the band or ABSOLUTELY in love with them!! I've never met anyone who's half/half :P

I personally love them :) saw them live in Turkey and was hooooked :D

What are your thoughts?

Janszoon 02-04-2016 08:49 PM

It's because they are crap.

Chula Vista 02-04-2016 08:52 PM

They were literally just a flash in the pan.

In the 55+ age circles? Hence the points.

Frownland 02-04-2016 09:18 PM

You get points for knowing about that gerdang Justin Bieber, too.

One would think, or at least I would think, that you'd know what was implied by 'literally a flash in the pan' due to the band being well known for their pyrotechnics during their live shows. Get with the program Frown, you're quicker than that.

And I have always been neutral about these guys. Kind of like songs here and there, never could actually consider them very good, maybe just this overblown mediocre band somehow pegged as this pioneering band of a genre ripe with industrial influence. I think if they had hit the scene maybe ten years later than they did. Then the band wouldn't be so renowned or regarded in such a positive way by so many. Let's be honest though. Not the first mediocre act to get lucky and have a so far successful 20+ year run.

I mean. Linkin Park anyone? Not a 20+ year band but getting there.

grindy 02-04-2016 09:33 PM

Still mad at them for ruining an otherwise awesome scene in "Lost Highway" with their terrible music.

Sometimes people can't leave well enough alone. I feel your pain.

Not to mention that they're even more painful to listen to when you actually understand German.

My brother had one of his friends over when I was in, I think it was 8th grade, and they were in our room blaring Rammstein's Du Hast like it was the most glorious song ever recorded. I took the cd out of the player and broke it in half. My mother grounded me for two weekends. It was worth it.

We sure had difficult childhoods.
My dad had this song on an otherwise musically very different mixtape he made for himself. It was unpleasant as hell when I was in the car with him and it suddenly started playing.

CoNtrivedNiHilism 02-04-2016 10:01 PM

Haha. I would have tossed the tape out of the window. The torments of childhood were a b*tch, weren't they?

You really wouldn't want to piss off a Russian dad.
I've learned from early on to be pretty tolerant of people listening to terrible music around me anyway.
Brightened my childhood and subsequent life considerably.

Blue Hawk 02-05-2016 01:39 AM

Their music sucks.

Pretty much. They're a heavier, less terrible version of Rob Zombie, and since most of us on MB don't particularly like Rob Zombie, that generally means we don't like them much better.

I give their first album a pass though, since it actually shows some connection with industrial metal, rather than just lame metal with lame electronica thrown in. The riff from "Rammstein" alone has pretty much saved me from the kind of knee-jerk contempt felt by my fellow forum members.

Chula Vista 02-05-2016 09:48 AM

Sometimes monotone vocals work. Sometimes they're annoying. That was annoying. Great riffing though.

Trip777 02-05-2016 05:27 PM

Hmmmm, a very hateful bunch I see :P. Not bad for my first post around here, sorry Rammstein but it seems you fail in MB :P

Welcome to the Internet.

Either way, Rammstein sucks in both the digital and physical worlds.

I'm probably the closest to a fan here, and I still only rep the debut. After that I wash my hands of the band except for a few songs here and there.

Norg 02-05-2016 07:23 PM

I think there a great band

I think that says it all, right there.

Two Spirit 02-05-2016 07:41 PM

I'm actually surprised by all the hate in this thread. They're certainly above tier in the industrial metal world and are pioneers in the nu deutsche harte genre, despite not being the first popular band to do so.

How can anyone say this is a bad song?

Chula Vista 02-05-2016 07:44 PM

Again, great riffing but terrible vocals.

Pretty easily since it's a boring-as-**** song. I don't know who told Rammstein they could do ballads, but that person was obviously trolling them.

Says the guy who plays an acoustic with a coat hanger.

(ya, ya, ya, I know. It was a knitting needle)

Frownland 02-05-2016 07:56 PM

I bet you're one of those guys who makes jokes about bassists with picks.

Wait, so are we not making fun of this guy? Just... just look at him. 70s. So, so 70s.

Frownland 02-05-2016 08:05 PM

Artist from the 70s dressed like one 70s ass mo****er...lol.

Chula Vista 02-05-2016 08:08 PM

Loved how Grohl ripped on this during his induction intro.

As in Dave Grohl? I don't care, just wondering if you started to work for Spin or something.
