Master Of Puppets Turns 30 Today

Pretty crazy to think that today marks the 30th anniversary of Metallica's Master Of Puppets. Seems like just yesterday the album came out:

OccultHawk 03-03-2016 05:36 PM

It seems like only yesterday I was blazing up and listening to this and Celtic Frost on my Walkman.

Engine 03-03-2016 06:37 PM

Yesterday I blazed up and listened to this and Celtic Frost on my bluetooth earbuds.

Chula Vista 03-03-2016 07:02 PM

And still their greatest album.

Mondo Bungle 03-03-2016 07:04 PM

The weakest of the first four but it's got one of their best with "Orion"

Some people think so, I'm not one of them. RTL FTW

The Batlord 03-03-2016 07:09 PM

nb4 "Everything before MoP was just foreplay."

Machine 03-03-2016 07:17 PM

And Justice=Ride The Lightning>Master of Puppets>Kill 'Em All>who cares lol

The Batlord 03-03-2016 07:18 PM

Kill 'Em All > Ride the Lightning > Master of Puppets > And Justice for All

Get it right, people.

Paul Smeenus 03-03-2016 07:26 PM

RtL > K'eA > MoP >>>>> AJFA (except Blackened which rules)

OccultHawk 03-03-2016 07:31 PM

Imo Justice was is their first bad record and they continued to suck from then on.

The three before that are all excellent and the best thing they ever released was the Creeping Death / Am I Evil single.

And now that "Am I Evil" and "Blitzkrieg" are bonus tracks on Kill 'Em All it's even more the best Metallica album.

I liked Justice even with the terrible mix. Some of their most complex arrangements. Almost progressive at times.

OccultHawk 03-03-2016 08:19 PM

It doesn't feel angry or creepy to me and I still haven't forgiven them for that.

They do when I get to the end of the album.

So we pretty much all agree that "Disposable Heroes" is quasi-filler.

Frownland 03-05-2016 01:13 PM

Wow, 30 years? It seems like just yesterday since this album had been out for my whole life.

You could say it's disposable.

1. Leper Messiah
2. The Thing That Should Not Be
3. Battery
4. Orion
5. Master of Puppets
6. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
7. Damage, Inc.
8. Disposable Heroes

Mondo Bungle 03-05-2016 03:22 PM

I love it. It's a little long for the content but I love riffs for days and just sick thrashing. Although tbh Thing That Should Not Be should be above it on my list

Neapolitan 03-05-2016 04:07 PM

Compared to Led Zeppelin II, MoP is a horrible album. I couldn't listen to more than a few seconds of it. That album is an affront to music.

Not many things in this world measure up to Zep II.

Good thing it's by a completely different band and part of a different genre then, eh?

I didn't think H.P. would pull that top spot

Well, it's a heavy-as-****, evil song. I'm just sad to see "Leper Messiah" so low. It might not have the same atmosphere, but god damn is that song ****ing heavy.

OccultHawk 03-05-2016 07:40 PM

I can't rank the whole album but the title track is by far the stand out, in my opinion.

I basically ignore the presence of the horrid mix when rating that album because the compositions at the core of the album immensely outweigh that. That **** is no reason to not like an album.

Also my ratings
1) Orion
2) The Thing That Should Not Be
3) Disposable Heroes
4) Master Of Puppets
5) Leper Messiah
6) Welcome home
7) Battery
8) Damage Inc.

The shyte mix has a lot to do with my relative disinterest in Seasons/Abyss
