Default No more sub genres!

Anything before 1992 is labelled as Classic Rock, meanwhile some skateboarder changes the shape of his jeans and Metal has a new sub genre.

It's unhelpful, indulgent and reduces music to fashion and marketing.

Actually, I think the term "classic rock" originally referred exclusively to rock music made in 1960-1970, before everybody started adding 4-hour guitar solos to every rock song. More to the point, that's not true. There's acid rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock, hard rock, etc.., and all of those are sub-genres of rock frequently used to describe music from that period.

Sub-genres are a good thing, especially in metal, where there is a big difference between Judas Priest, Suffocation, Isis, and Sunn O))).

I have not ever seen someone reference skateboarding in regards to metal. I don't know where you got that from or what the hell that has to do with anything. I'm pretty sure Norwegians don't skateboard, though I think Briks does have a battle jacket.

I like narrow use of specific sub-genre titles because it helps me find musicians who sound like what I'm in the mood to explore. If I want to hear bands that sound like Acid King I don't want to spend my time shifting through bands that sound like poison.

Really? There was a pretty huge overlap between skateboarders and metal fans for a very long time.

Maybe you're just old.

I still know kids who skate around listening to In Flames, Suicidal Tendencies, and Anthrax. Granted, not many.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

"Classic Rock' is a radio format.
