Judas Priest
Does anyone have the Live In London CD of Judas Priest? I just noticed that, on my CD, two tracks are switched. Track number 12 is called "Hell Bent For Leather", but is really the song "Livin' After Midnight" and number 11 is called "Livin' After Midnight" but is actually the song "Hell Bent For Leather".
I got a bit confused over the two. Some moron must have screwed up the CD. Anyone else have this problem. |
Judas Priest rules the world... and Ohio. not that Ohio has anything to do with anything, but.... get over it.

Judas Priest are f u c k ing awesome :) :) |
Another band I've been thinking about getting some stuff from. I want to get Hell Bent For Leather, but do you guys think If I get Priest, I should get the 2001 remasters w/ extra tracks instead of the 1990 versions?

In vocalist Rob Halford, you are probably talking about one of the most revered vocalists in metal along with Bruce D**ckinson and Ozzy. |
my torrent of "Screaming for Vengeance" got all the tracks mislabelled

My dad used to play JP all the time when I was little, British Steel was his favorite. |
Can't stand British Steel, but I like a few of their songs here and there. Really really like a few songs like Electric Eye:

the "hits" don't sound much different from my cassette comp |
I freaking love JP. I have 80% of their albums I think. Best album is Sin After Sin. Best song is:

Am I the only one who thinks that Painkiller is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it kicks ass, but I far prefer the old school 70s and 80s Priest. It seems like some people want to says it's the best Priest album cause it's the most extreme. After a while it gets kind of dull to me though.

I only like 3 songs off it. The title track, Touch Of Evil & Night Crawler. Everything else on it is Judas Priest by numbers. There's a Judas Priest bootleg kicking around of a radio show they did at the New York Palladium in 1977 on the Sin After Sin tour. I'd sell my mother to own that thing, they even open the gig with Let Us Prey/Call For The Priest. I've ALWAYS wanted to hear that played live. It's also the only Priest tour I have nothing from, which is annoying because Sin After Sin might be my favourite Priest album. :( |

Judas Priest split up in 1991 as far as I'm concerned.

Apart from a couple of tracks here and there I am not much of a Priest fan. Much preferred Dio. I know they sound different from each other but as archetypal Metal bands I just prefer Dio's music.
However Sad Wings Of Destiny is a phenomenal album and one of the best Metal albums out there. |

It's just the first album where they started really really producing viable hit songs. Quote:

Dio is great but when it comes to Sabbath, Dio can't touch Ozzy.
|
True, but I'd never really consider that Black Sabbath. The band was well dead before he came along, they just became his backing band.
In the same sense, Ozzy wasn't quite Black Sabbath, either. Blizzard of Oz was a good album, and the rest is just those good old 'one good hit song with amazing Randy Rhodes solos to sell the album then a ton of crap' albums. |

Ozzy was a much better fit w/Sabbath, but Dio was a much better singer. Just give the "Dio at Donington UK: Live 1983" disk a listen and you'll hear there's no comparing the two. I might add a completely ass-whooping live cd.
Priest's, best most consistent albums were "Sad Wings" and "Stained Class". After that, could get cheesy, ie "United". Still very powerful and multi-dimensional band which new how to change it up, as evident on "Screaming with a Vengeance" where the band went from dark speed metal to light glam metal at the flick of a switch. I don't think there was another band that could craft a heavy metal single as well as Judas Priest...well accept for maybe Ozzy. |
