It's impossible to discuss this with people who first heard this stuff so far after the fact. I'm waving a white flag. If folks here can diss on the 2 Who vids I posted, then I'm at a loss.

Side note: It was almost impossible to get a ticket to a Who show in the early 70s. Many considered them the best live band of that era.

Music Banter > Chula Vista

Psssst: Did ya know that Teenage Wasteland was in direct response to The Who playing Woodstock? Townsend (next to Roger Waters, the most cynical musician of that era) was disgusted by what he saw at Woodstock.

"Out here in the fields, teenage wasteland."

I thought teenage wasteland was about a music teacher named Baba O'riley. That's why they named it that.

From Wiki.

Quote:
Townshend stated in an interview that "'Baba O'Riley' is about the absolute desolation of teenagers at Woodstock, where the patrons were smacked out on acid and 20 people had brain damage. The irony was that some listeners took the song to be a teenage celebration: 'Teenage Wasteland, yes! We're all wasted

Here's the thing. You can't use your age as an argument. That's a completely biased and bs way of trying to argue with someone about music. However, I agree with you on Who's Next. But, having your age be a factor in it is unfair. That's like saying music from the 2000 era can't be discussed unless you were born in 2000.

I'm not using my age to try and win any arguments. Just saying you and I are going to have a different perspective of the song. We both can like it or dislike it but it'll be from a slightly different perspective.

Re: Sheep - lamest argument ever.

When it was released in 1971 it reach #5 or better on the charts in the US, UK, Canada, France, Denmark, and The Netherlands. It's got an average 5 star rating on Amazon based on 850 customer reviews. Allmusic.com rates it a 5 also. It's gone triple platinum in the US alone.

That's one ****ing big flock of sheep.

Fair enough. And that's true I suppose.
