Don't ever let anyone tell you you're not pretty, grindy.

Not necessary. Speed metal was a word for metal that was basically proto-thrash. Speed metal, power metal, and thrash metal were all basically just different words applied to bands who were all part of the same movement in the early-mid 80s. Pretty much any band you could call speed metal would be just as easily called thrash or power metal.

And especially since speed metal specifically was never really an actual separate movement. Like I said, in the early 80s thrash, speed, and power metal were often all the same movement, and by the time thrash became the main movement then speed metal just got folded into that.

Does this fit into thrash/power category? Note. This is 1987.

Some new stuff

Yes, some bands don't quite fit the mold, but they do not constitute a legitimate metal movement that needs its own name. Agent Steel are close enough to power metal and Holy Terror are close enough to thrash that worrying about some genre name that became obsolete in the mid-80s is pointless.

And I don't give a **** about new bands since they're mostly useless copycats who are just aping a specific band or time period in metal. Just because a band might decide to sound just like Exciter's first album doesn't all of a sudden mean that speed metal needs its own separate genre when you could easily call them heavy metal or thrash metal. Speed metal is just too specific and short lived a non-movement for it to matter.
