Your Top 10 Metal Albums

Let's do it, you freaks! 10 only. Not necessarily in order. I want to see all those gratuitously aggressive titles and hateful vibes!

I want lists dammit! I want them here and I want them now!

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-25-2016 07:53 AM

Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss
Converge - Jane Doe
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Strapping Young Lad - City
Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops
Arkangel - Dead Man Walking
Darkthrone - Under A Funeral Moon
Melvins - Houdini
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Death - Symbolic

That's just 10 off the top of my head so idk if it would hold up as my actual list but yeah

blackdragon123 11-25-2016 08:52 AM

Electric Wizard gets a lot of love around these parts. I'll have to check them out.

My list is below. I've excluded Black Sabbath entries, or the entire list would just be choked with them.

Start Something - Lostprophets
No More Tears - Ozzy Osbourne
Indestructible - Disturbed
Iommi - Iommi
One Day Remains - Alter Bridge
Black Gives Way to Blue - Alice in Chains
The Fake Sound of Progress - Lostprophets
Fused - Iommi
Black Rain - Ozzy Osbourne
Holy Diver - Dio

"I want it. I want it. I want it. Me! Me! Me! Me!" - Smithers

Tristan_Geoff 11-25-2016 09:22 AM

Acid Bath- When the Kite Strings Pop
Agalloch- The Mantle
Converge- Jane Doe
Deftones- Saturday Night Wrist
Isis- Oceanic
Kyuss- Blues for the Red Sun
Mastodon- Leviathan
Melvins- Bullhead
Tool- Lateralus

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-25-2016 09:30 AM

I didn't know you could pick a wrong Kyuss album. I mean they're all so ****ing great.

Frownland 11-25-2016 09:39 AM

Gorguts - Obscura
Black Sabbath - Sabatoge
Naked City - Leng Tch'e
Zu - Carboniferous
Crimson Massacre - The Luster of Pandemonium
Fantômas - Fantômas

Bruh Kyuss is in my solid top 5, I get to choose which Kyuss album I put in there. Blues for the Red Sun is clearly the better choice after all anyways, though I still love the **** out of Welcome to Sky Valley (10/10 btw).

And as for Tool, that's their best album, it would appeal to even non-Tool fans like yourself. Try it out heathen.

Frownland 11-25-2016 09:41 AM

Opiate is the best thing they ever released. Laterelus drags for a bit. I like Tool though.

I would say the same about Opiate, I think it feels sort of stale. I do like a few tracks off it though.

Sabotage. Nice

"Are you high?! ...So am I!"

Blank. 11-25-2016 09:52 AM

Opiate is good, but it doesn't really showcase what makes Tool badass.

Slipknot - Slipknot
Tool - Ænima
Monster Magnet - Superjudge
Nirvana - Bleach
Queens Of the Stone Age - Songs For the Deaf
System of a Down - Toxicity
Drowning Pool - Sinner
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease
Kyuss - (I can't pick one, they're all ****ing great.)

The Batlord 11-25-2016 10:46 AM

No way I can come up with a top 10 off the top of my head and I am not willing to halfass it. Gonna put in some work now...

Wpnfire 11-25-2016 10:47 AM

  1. Sleep—Dopesmoker
  2. OM—Variations On A Theme
  3. Deathrow—Deception Ignored
  4. Metallica—Master of Puppets
  5. Earth—Earth 2
  6. Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine—Rampton
  7. Metallica—...And Justice For All
  8. Slayer—Reign In Blood
  9. Electric Wizard—Dopethrone
  10. Sunn O)))—The Grimm Robe Demos

The Batlord 11-25-2016 10:55 AM

In looking at all the music on my computer I now realize that I have downloaded Motley Crue's entire discography twice and put them in two different places in my music files.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-25-2016 10:59 AM

So they'd be in your list twice? Because same.

The Batlord 11-25-2016 11:04 AM

It would be pretty hard to give any one band two spots, but their first two albums are pretty important to me.

grindy 11-25-2016 12:57 PM

Off the top of my head:

Gorguts - Obscura
Burzum - Filosofem
Slayer - Decade Of Aggression
Darkspace - Dark Space III
Paysage d'Hiver - Paysage d'Hiver
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops
Psychotic Waltz - Into The Everflow
Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
Zeni Geva - Alive And Rising

Frownland 11-25-2016 01:52 PM

Will be checking out Darkspace and Zeni Geva asap.

Alive And Rising has Tatsuya Yoshida on drums. Imagine some raw, hardcore influenced, somewhat psychedelic metal with that kind of drumming. Epic stuff.

And Darkspace is Wintherr's (aka Paysage d'Hiver) other band.

Sounds like something I'd make. Extra excited.

Even more hype for my first listen.

Notice what? That I included an album that most people consider rock? I don't care what you think, it's more metal than rock.

I don't contest QOTSA at all but I will say that Bleach is kind of a stretch. Much more punk influenced imo, and even the Melvins influence in that is taken to more punk territory. Sludge Punk if you will.

Sludge metal, sludge punk. I don't think it's that much of a stretch. Now, if I said that about incesticide, nevermind, or in Utero I'd say that would be strectch.

The Batlord 11-25-2016 04:25 PM

Close the **** enough.

/the master has spoken

Frownland 11-25-2016 04:26 PM

QOTSA sure. Nirvana nah.

Mondo Bungle 11-25-2016 04:29 PM

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Teitanblood - Seven Chalices
Burzum - Filosofem
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses
Drudkh - Blood in our Wells
diSEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence into the Peripheral
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Neurosis - Enemy of the Sun

The Batlord 11-25-2016 04:36 PM

I guess we can all agree that When the Kite String Pops is the best metal album ever cause it's gonna be on my list too.

Kind of feels like an oversight on my part.

Mondo Bungle 11-25-2016 04:40 PM

That's not something to be agreed or disagreed on.

I mean it's like the third definition when you look up "best" in the dictionary. It just says: see-Acid Bath

The Batlord 11-25-2016 04:41 PM

It's funny cause I'd never even heard of the album before coming to MB and now it's ubiquitous here. And it's not even hipster bait.

*also see-pretty much anything Dax Riggs has ever been in

Frownland 11-25-2016 04:44 PM

It's a perfect album. There are a lot of perfect albums.

Mondo Bungle 11-25-2016 04:53 PM

It's been my favorite since I was like 11

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-25-2016 05:18 PM

Mondo Bungle 11-25-2016 06:18 PM

I'll never figure out why my CD has a different font on the cover then I've seen anywhere else.

The Batlord 11-25-2016 07:01 PM

It's gonna take me a minute to come up with a list, but anyone who doesn't have a Motley Crue album on their list is a poseur ironically enough.

Frownland 11-25-2016 07:05 PM

Who on earth is lame enough to listen to glam metal when extreme metal exists?

There's two different versions of the cover
