I'm not here to appease your ever changing antagonistic whims.

Go **** off.

Talking about antagonistic when you made that rule only after someone dropped a live album in here...

The censored part. Also the part where you're the only one allowed to be a dick in here.

Let me be a dick too, it's fun.

Everyone knows when you're talking about a band's top records you mean the studio albums not live albums or compilations unless expressly stated.

I think it's the other way around tbh, it's just more common for people to have only heard the studio albums.

This actually makes me wonder--is the way that both sides are viewing live albums a generational thing?

Music was meant to be perform live. I don't understand anti-live album snowflakes that melt when a band goes onstage performs in front of a "live" audience. So it gets recorded, is that a crime? That is the purpose of a band, to perform in front of people. When did the definition of being musicians became to mean only being confined to a room with mics sealed off from the rest of the world? Maybe the next Rush wants to record a live performance they can construct a sound-proof room onstage and isolated themselves from the crowd and record what they did and everyone can be happy.

A Rush live album is pretty much not at all a "best of" seeing as their tracks can be reworked vastly every time they're played, giving us new material with every performance and arguably never playing a song the same twice. I doubt they even could.

So many many bands with live albums being among their best work

I love good live records. It's not fair to judge them against studio records because they have all the hits. It doesn't have anything to do with liking the record it's simply not customary to include live records. That's understood.

Rush's live records are brilliant.
