MB Metal Classics

Hey, if there's one thing I'm good at, it's stealing other people's ideas!

So you all know the deal: Blank's "MB Classics" thread seems to have stalled. How about we try it with metal albums only? Tell you what: to open it up just a little, and not exclude those who have no real interest in metal, let's say we include albums that could be more considered hard rock than metal. If an album or albums look to be on shaky ground for inclusion we can discuss it, but the final decision will be mine.

So submit your five metal albums you want to discuss and we'll see which ones end up being voted classics. I'm not sure how Blank was intending to run his thread, but for this one I'll select one randomly each week for voting. After one week voting will close and either pronounced a classic or not, but you can keep discussing it after that point, just no more votes. As in Blank's rules, talk a little about the album or your vote won't count.

Minimum of three people voting required on every album, anything over 8 will be considered having made it as a classic.

Note: **** RYM. I ain't doin' no list. All I'll do is colour-code the albums in the list. See if you can guess what means what. Give up? Green = made it to classic. Red = Didn't make the cut. Blue = In play at the moment. Black = Yet to be picked for a vote. Simples, yes?

So, who's first? Mine are of course first here below, but that doesn't mean they'll be picked first necessarily.

Spoilering this now...

Let's just revamp the other one, having a metal specific one is a bit redundant given how much metal is already on that list.

grindy 04-29-2018 07:03 AM

Burzum - Filosofem
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Gorguts - Obscura
Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops
Psychotic Waltz - Into The Everflow

And yes, those are unassailable and yes, I do have impeccable taste. Thank you.

I'm going to suggest that we've already discussed NSV to death (no pun intended) on the other thread. Is there any point doing it again? I don't mind; I just don't see how much more can be said about it in this context. If you want to keep it that's fine, if you'd rather replace it with another, go ahead. I'll add the four others for now and you can let me know what you decide.

Well, not really. People chose the albums on the other one based on one criterion, this is another. This is not just the albums you think are classics, but the metal/hard rock ones you would consider. That could weigh on the decision of members as to what to include/exclude, had that been the original point of Blank's thread. Anyway, let's stick with this and see how many people are interested, and if it's worth doing. Who knows? Blank may want to resurrect his thread at some time, so I'd rather not just take it over or take it apart.

Ho, my thread already called it an MB Classic.

Oh, im going to revamp the old thread BTW

The Batlord 04-29-2018 11:06 AM

Zao - Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest
Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare
Bathory - Hammerheart
Manowar - Into Glory Ride
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence

Trollheart 04-29-2018 12:08 PM

Okay, so we now have twenty albums. Do you guys want to wait till a few other people have weighed in, or get this going asap? I can just choose one at random to get the ball rolling, but if you'd rather wait we can give it a few hours/days. Watcha think?

Oriphiel 04-29-2018 01:11 PM

Girlschool - Demolition
Oral - Oral Sex :p:
Lucifer's Friend - S/T
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Trollheart 04-29-2018 05:56 PM

Let's kick this off tomorrow. If others want to add to the list afterwards that's not a problem. I'll pick one at random in the morning and we can get this underway. No point waiting around, huh?

So...still a redundant thread.

Question: do you guys want to go with the idea of one album a week, or would you prefer to vote on more than one? And if the latter, would you then prefer a longer interval before voting closes?

Love Slayer obviously but this site has no dearth of Slayer talk.

This is true. Will probably be the same with Powerslave when it comes up. Love that album so much, though.

Wpnfire 05-02-2018 08:56 AM

1. Morbid Angel-Altars of Madness
2. Dark Angel-Darkness Descends
3. Slayer-Reign in blood
4. Sleep-Dopesmoker
5. Electric Wizard-Dopethrone

These aren't my all-time favorite albums, but the ones I think will generate the most discussion.

"I LOVE TO EAT PUSSY!!!"

Wpnfire 05-04-2018 08:42 AM

Autopsy's first album is better than Mental Funeral.

Mondo Bungle 05-05-2018 02:50 PM

I still listen to it a lot but it's more in one or two or three song bursts and I go listen to something else. I over listened to this album hard as ****.

As simple as their sound is they give a unique assault on the senses that is singularly intense. "From Heaven We Fall" is an all-time great opener. But I'll give it a 9.

Booo unfair discrimination of metal albums.

You should really put that in the OP.

Sorry. I thought I was dealing with grown-ups who could not only read, but understand simple concepts like "metal albums". You got any albums actually MADE OF metal you want to include while we're at it? Or smooth jazz albums by artists whose surname is Metal? Anything else you'd like me to consider?

Just how bored are you at the moment, or did that earthquake shake your brain loose?

It's your ambiguous wording man, not sure why you're treating me like this.
