thing is RATM did appeal to the exact same demographic of 'tough guy wigger nu-metal mtv' fans as Limp Bizkit.
nu-metal had also been around for a few years before Rage (suicidal tendencies / biohazard etc.), the term just hadn't been coined yet. it's clear as day that Rage is a superior group to Bizkit but they both most definitely owe a debt to MTV for the level of success they managed to achieve. i don't doubt that RATM could have amounted to something completely independently (maybe even with a reversal of the hypocrisy / integrity ratio). Bizkit on the other hand is a band of coattail riders. |
