Very snarky guy. Still a talented songwriter despite lifting from the Beatles a lot. Clearly in charge of most of the melodies in Oasis. Seems a lot cooler as he's getting older

So they are both moving forward...
Both are doing really well don't you think....

Maybe they will even get to like each other....

Some "only" accomplishment. They were only one of the most successful bands of the nineties.

The Batlord 09-27-2021 08:40 AM

So were Matchbox 20.

Hey, I didn't say they were good, only successful :D

SGR 09-27-2021 02:18 PM

When are the Gallagher brothers gonna stop being complete wankers and just reform the ****ing band?

Do people feel like Oasis lifted from the Beatles more than other bands lift from their influences?

The Batlord 09-27-2021 03:53 PM

They straight up stole "Bang a Gong Get It On" though.

I think that's the accusation, but Britpop in general is influenced by mid-late period Beatles anyway.

True, but even the Mighty Fall straight up ripped some songs from other artists.

They definitely wore that influence on their sleeve and they'd never shut up about the Beatles either. They even got Ringo's kid to drum on their last album. Could be why they're criticized so much for it.

Sacha Baron Cohen's story is a good example.

They name check the Beatles so much in their songs, it gets kinda obnoxious, and I'm a fan of Oasis.

There's a few:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YrHBGQ5rzw

What kills me though, is that the older I get, the more I realize a lot of music is just an incremental shift from what's come before. Generally speaking, the music that's the most innovative is just sitting at the intersection of 3 influences. But it's nonetheless moving the needle slightly. It's just harder to hang it on one band.

The Batlord 09-28-2021 02:53 PM

I mean you do listen to 7 Mary 3.

I do? I think I know two songs by them. Where'd this come from?

The Batlord 09-28-2021 03:34 PM

Don't lie to me, Dishwalla boy.

Those are different bands. And the unplugged version of Counting Blue Cars is a masterpiece!

I still don't know what any of this has to do with Oasis.

The Batlord 09-28-2021 03:37 PM

And I'll bet you have a copy of Matchbox 20's first album you bought when it came out.

No, but for the sake of Musicbanter, we can set up a Discord session where you just grill me on my **** music taste, and record it for youtube.

The Batlord 09-28-2021 03:39 PM

The evidence is already damning enough.

Yeah, I think I remember reading that in Renegade. Granted, I wasn't sober any time when I read it.

But yeah, regardless of being ripped or not, definitely not one of the better songs from that album.

Between the Bowie mix and the Iggy mix of Raw Power, which one do you prefer?

Haven't heard either. Should I listen or have I already condemned myself?

If you've never heard Raw Power, you definitely should. Some people prefer one mix over the other. Some people prefer the other mix. I know which one Batlord prefers, so was just trying to draw out your answer to either reinforce his point or refute it (at least a little).

It's a great album. Definitely peep it.

How the **** have you been on this site since the Tet Offensive and avoided Raw Power?! This is literally the hardest rocking song ever.

When I was 16, and finally got my drivers license, and bought an old junker off my Uncle for $1, the first thing I did was take a joyride with the windows down blasting this album. It's an impeccable album.

Come on bro, what are you doing blessing us with Fall trivia in a ****ing Noel Gallagher thread when you have ONE POST LEFT TO MAKE to finish off your Fall journal?

Fine I'll listen to it, but if this isn't as good as Dishwalla, we're in a fight.

Wait, this isn't called Raw Power. And where do I get the Bowie one?

The Batlord 09-28-2021 05:47 PM

Hence "song". And both versions are on Spotify with the Iggy mix just being called "Raw Power" and the Bowie mix being called "Raw Power (Legacy Edition)".

SGR 09-30-2021 03:48 PM

So did you listen to Raw Power yet, Big Tres? Whatchu think?

Just got around to listening to both. I love the garage sound, but at this point it just sounds like the music they put in a scene about high school kids driving to a concert. Reminded me a bit of:

“Cherry Bomb” Played In Lieu Of Actual Female Character Development

But for like, for the 4 metal kids in the disco era.

That said, I'm not sure what Bowie added other than making it slightly more palatable to cowards. It felt like the roughness of it was reduced. Am I missing something?

The Batlord 10-22-2021 08:44 AM

Bagging on both Raw Power and The Runaways is self own squared.

I only ask that you judge me by my enemies.

The Batlord 10-22-2021 08:56 AM

And the Bowie version was the original.

SGR 10-22-2021 09:17 AM

The Iggy mix is rawer, more direct, snappier and louder. The Bowie version, as you said, is basically the same music with the balls cut off.

TheBig3 10-22-2021 09:41 AM

Yeah, absolutely. But that punky 70's sound has just been adopted by pharma commercials and children's shows at this point. Some of the tracks are better than others in sounding like real toons, but too much has been co-opted.

re: Bowie's being the original. Major improvement with the Iggy mix.

The Batlord 10-22-2021 09:45 AM

The only people who like the Bowie mix better are pussies and people who grew up with it.

I agree. They have made their point now

brcampbe01 01-24-2022 07:28 AM

I always saw both Gallagher brothers as Stone Roses ripoffs. I think they both were on the Roses' road crew so that makes sense. Ian Brown was a much better frontman in my opinion.
