Should there be a prog forum on musicbanter? (Read First!) (hardcore, metal)

No I don't think it would work, though if I remember correctly you vetoed the split of the rock and metal forums and if thats the case I find this kind of amusing.

Yeah, big3 had a damn good idea, if we were to split them, we could make a sub-forum for prog in the rock one, there would be fewer complaints and problems that way.

Hmm, dunno, but i think it would be better just to keep all the prog genres in one forum...But i dunno, we will see, i dont even know if the mods will endorse my idea or not, we will just have to wait, and pray.

But if prog falls under a bunch of genres why bother? Surely you could just dicuss pink floyd in the rock forum without much concern..

Yeah, but my ambitions are much greater than pink floyd.

Rock falls into many genres too, i mean just because a genre is very unique and has very diverse origins it dosent count?, that makes no sense, especialy with a rap forum, tell me the one genre that spawned rap, you cant, because its origins are just as diverse and random as progs.

Boo boo no offense dude but your throwing out dumb arguements and comparing genres which to me doesn't explain a thing.If prog bands can each fit into another genre why bother making a forum for them?

Because splitting them up into many sub-forums would be stupid, and not making a forum on the grounds that its "too unique" is even stupider...I dont care if its a forum or a sub-forum, there should be one, if its a sub-forum it should be in the rock forum and nothing else, prog rock is a type of rock, symphonic prog is inspired by classical music, but it is not classical music, its PROG, just like prog folk isnt folk its prog, nor is jazz rock jazz...Prog sub-genres are not sub-genres to classical music, jazz, folk or anything, they are sub-genres to prog. And the comparison to rap is a valid one, the genres have nothing in common musicly, but they are similar for the fact that they were both based off many genres and styles, and just like rap, prog is a unique and destictive style of music in its own right, it uses elements of those genres, but its NOT a part of those genres, more than anything its rock, but like metal and punk its very different from standard rock. rock itself is based off the blues and folk music, but it is NOT blues nor is it folk, its a genre of its own, just like prog, prog is a sub-genre to rock yes, but you treat it like its just a minor sub-genre and nothing more, well you are wrong, it isnt, in fact, in the 70s prog was one of the most popular rock genres in the world, it never died, it was just too weird to be commercial and people began paying more attention to punk and metal, but prog is just as big as punk and metal, its just nowhere as popular. And i dont care about how or when, IMO it should have a forum, sheesh.

If it can fit into another forum then it doesnt need to have awhole nother forum dont take what i said way out of context.I didn't say it IS this genre and i said if they can FIT.

Like i said before, i would have no problem with a sub-forum in the rock section, prog is a style of rock, but i still think it should have its own forum or at least sub-forum, metal and punk are styles of rock too, so why they can have their own big forum and why prog cant even have a little sub-forum is beyond me. Especialy with all the other genres like Emo that have sub-forums.

Emo AND hardcore dont forget that hardcore is a huge genre with also a following no matter what you say if you walk up to 20 kids and ask them if they've heard the term hardcore,punk,emo and metal they'll say yes to nearly all of them you add prog rock and they'll probaly say "what?".Its not as popular and well known it would have a few regular posters and thats it its not needed if there would only be a few people to post in it theirs is no point to making a forum so a few members could dicuss it.Its not a needed thing at all it would do just as fine with out it as i said pink floyd could still be dicussed in the rock forum.
