They probably will because Slipknot is a well known group, but I'll leave it at that because arguing with an ignorent bastard that gets his jollies our of sploshing with a diseased cow is pointless.

I agree with that formula for the most part but . . . where's the good music at? I am not all about classic rock, I am a fan of grunge music, and I also like some newer bands such as the chili peppers, foo fighters, and audioslave. I am also a MAJOR tool fan, reasons being that 1) I can actually understand what they are saying, and 2)they actually sing about real topics with deep meanings, and 3) they are very talented and play their instruments very well. I can't stand how music nowadays is all about the lyrics, which really suck. It used to be that artists like bob dylan, the rolling stones, the doors, pink floyd, etc. would sing about real life subjects and the music impacted its listeners, most modern rock especially metal does not impact me because i can not understand what they are saying, or should i say screaming. Bob dylan once wrote the times they are a changin, unfortunately, musically speaking they are changin for the worse. There is hope I think, because I think rock music has hit an all time low and cannot get much worse, so it can only get better from here I hope, and more and more younger people are getting into the older rock and realizing that it is much better. There are two glaring problems that seperate modern music from past times music: hardly anyone plays their own instruments any more, and the lyrics are squallid. Guitar riffs are often stolen directly from other songs (Kid Rock, stealing Metallica's riff from Sad But True. That pissed me off. Kid Rock sucks. Need I even mention eminem destroying dream on, I'll be glad when he gets shot or ods on crack) Also, the instruments are not the focus as they should be; the focus is on the crappy lyrics that spew forth from the mouths of modern day musicians. That point is even arguable, because I would also contend that the main focus is not on the music at all, but rather on the image associated with the singers. Back in the day, when great bands such as the ones mentioned in this poll and others ruled supreme, musicians actually played their instruments, and played them damn well. Songs usually had introductions that lasted more than twelve seconds, as well as musical interludes throughout the course of the song. Damnit, there were solos as well! Music had a mood back then, with each band having a distinct sound. Now, too many bands sound the same. Here are my major issues with modern day rock/metal
1.) There is too much screaming. I don't enjoy it when I cannot understand the words.
2.) Way too much swearing. Now, I don't have anything against swearing in general, as most people know I swear a lot. However, sometimes I just don't want to hear it in my music. How is it so many great groups from the past could refrain from swearing much at all, but now its just like f* this f*that instead of singing about why you feel that way.
3.) Songs are no longer about anything. Old bands actually had songs that commented on things such as the government, or the horrors of war, and other common societal themes.
4.) Bands do not have distinct sounds any more. Most sound similar, and just scream at a microphone.

Compare lyrics:

There's somethin' happening here,
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there,
Tellin' me I gotta beware.
I think it's time we stop,
Hey, what's that sound,
Everybody look what's going down.

- For What It's Worth, Stephen Stills, 1966

"Duality" by Slipknot

I push my fingers into my eyes...
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache...
But it's made of all the things I have to take...
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside...
If the pain goes on...
Aaaaaaaah!

I rest my case

Ok, I am ready for your hostile replies now.

How are RHCP new?... They formed in 1983.

And The Foos have been around for a while too.

I think theres a lot of fresh good music out there, you just gotta know where to find it, and the best way to start is by NOT watching MTV and VH1 or listening to mainstream radio...Listen to collage radio, get sirius radio, go shopping at your nearest independent record store or search through some of the music profiles on myspace...You're bound to find something good.

hmm... well in number three you are completely and utterly wrong. Green Day, one of the most mainstream bands out there today, are commenting on society and their veiws on the war and ****. System Of A Down is fairly mainstream as rock, and their CD is all about the protest. I didnt say I liked them, just so you know, but you cant deny that being true. Radiohead just released a song protesting war. Nine Inch Nails new album had a war protest song in it. OWNED.

And there are plenty of different sounds out there, you just arent looking hard enough. No offense, but Im tired of you type of people bitching about music when there is plenty of quality stuff out there. And dont even try and disprove me, because there is literally something for everyone in music. There will always be.

And the lyric thing... that has always been a major draw in music. Some of my favorite bands (yes, even old ones) i listen to mainly because of the appeal of the lyrics. The Clash are an excellent example of this.

There will always be quality bands, and there will always be **** bands. Even back in the day, END OF STORY

You are arguing with a ****ing brick wall
Trust me
I've gotten into it with him before
Useless, let him continue licking Led Zepplins ass
He will never know any other good music
It is his loss
Not yours

thank you for including that post in your sig. I want as many people to read that as possible, i appreciate it I was mentioning rhcp and foo fighters as examples of non classic rock bands that i listen too. Others are bob marley, marvin ***e, ray charles, johnny cash, hank williams sr., along with classical (beethoven, mozart, tchaikosvky, sp?) etc, so I am tired of people saying I listen to classic rock and thats it, and that i kiss zeppelins ass etc. Im sorry that zeppelin happens to be one of the most talented rock bands ever, maybe thats why I like them so much. Maybe I should go search for some no name underground band that records out of their garage in some whole in the wall record store somewhere, but i dont feel like going to that much trouble when so much great music iof the past is so freely available
