Well, thing about The Kinks is that like The Who, they were one of the first bands to push the level of feedback and distortion to a new hieght, YRGMN helped start the power chord trend of the 60s that eventualy became a primary precurser to heavy metal.

Black Sabbath listed The Kinks as influences, as well as The Beatles.

He needs to check them out, all of them have a very heavy sound to them, of course heavy dosent always equal metal.

I heard that Rumble was the first song with distortion, that Link wray or whoever invented distortion but I was kinda sceptical

I dont think that is the first song with distortion.

Though it is considered the first popular song to feature the power chord, and of course, Townshend and Hendrix were heavly influenced by Wray.

Dick Dales Miserlou features some early use of distortion and reverb, as well as a strange speeded up guitar style that one could describe as a primitive and early form of shreding.
