there are so many other songs besides dont fear the reaper that are great songs. burnin for your and godzilla are both good ones that most people have never even heard of, its sad.

Burnin For You is great, but I have never really seen the appeal in Godzilla. I probably just need to give it a few more listens. I also love Cities On Flame With Rock N Roll.

yeah the way music works for me usually is that at first i may not like it much, but i cant just rule it out because the first time i heard it it didnt appeal to me. If i did that i would not like most the bands i like now. Music grows on me, not sure if its the same for all of you. I would definetely not like phish if it werent for listening to them quite a bit before i ruled them out, now they are one of my favorite groups of all time

I am currently very into neil young and crosby stills and nash for some reason. Young's vocals have grown on me alot lately, my favorite tunes being southern man, old man, and cortez the killer. I love the solo in southern man by the way, very well done.

Yeah when I get a new album I normally have to listen to it 3 or 4 times before I really like it.

I agree completely. DSOTM is a great album but my personal favorite is Wish You Were Here, with Animals in a VERY close third after DSOTM

Agreed. As I said in another thread, Classic Rock is about as much of a genre as Indie.

I think it might be because of all the references to Syd, but WYWH just seems to be on a different level emotionally for me. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is just a masterpiece. Of course, the title track is a great song too, it has such beautiful lyrics. Have a Cigar has one of my favorite Floyd solos, and Welcome to the Machine is just incredible all around.

Top 5 Floyd cds,

1.WYWH
2.DSOTM
3.Meddle
4.Animals
5.The Wall

Kashmir - the only CSNY cd I have is So Far, it's a compilation album, but it's great. If your into them, you oughta check out The Hollies. It was Graham Nash's band before CSN.

it's interesting how classic rock and roll is defined. it really seems to depend on age. to answer the initial discussion question, i'll point directly at 'revolver.' the beatles transitioned from mop tops to social consciousness through this record. in my opinion, every collection ought have a copy...but is it 'classic?' beats the sh$t outta' me.

this is age dependent. i've seen some mention ac/dc as 'classic.' i don't particularly care for this band but only because i chose a different path prior to those cats even 'thinking' about rockin.' my better half is six years my junior and she adores ac/dc and really does consider them 'classic.'

'classic' to me carries a negative connotation. for me 'classic' is the eagles......fleetwood mac.....etc. folks that got into the so bogus hall of fame just from living long enough and being a commercial success with unit sales. music that was popular during 'the day.' but 'the day' for me wasn't that for everyone. while folks were listening to 'take it easy' and 'hotel california' i had other items in mind.

there's so much more to blather on about. i'll stop here and watch awhile......

...good thread johnnyk....and even better discussion guys. really.
