I am opposite now. I am not big on either, but I will take the cheese of a song like "Pour Some Sugar On Me" or "Lets Get Rocked" over the over indulgent Halen formula.

Van Halen are cool and all, Eddie is talented guitarist and all.... just find them unbearable most of them time now.

and give me this over that:

just listen to those lyrics, David Lee Roth is like Venom's softcore fluffer boy.

It is like art vs. pornography: Van Halen = Playboy, Venom = Hustler.

For me the key distinction is that Def Leppard only has a few songs I like (like the ones you mentioned), whereas Van Halen has a few albums I like.

Well Van Halen are glamorous and Venom aren't, so I'd expect Van Halen to present the playboy image, Venom are from Newcastle and believe me, Newcastle it isn't glamorous.

You don't dig Montrose, Hagar was great in that band.

I'm kind of with you on that, though there's the occasional Hagar era track I enjoy, like "Right Now":
