I'm slowly warming up to the Doors (from their first three albums) but I still hesitate to say I really like them that much. I enjoy their music while it's playing but I rarely find myself reaching for their albums when I go to listen to music. Not sure what is keeping me from really liking them.

I have much love for The Doors..mad, mad love for The Doors.

Never got 'em.
My opinion is that Morrison was/is overrated.

ladyislingering 05-08-2014 03:50 PM

Love 'em madly. Always have, always will.

I dig The Doors, but feel they aren't quite riders on the storm. They just really don't help me to break on through to the other side.

Can I be your back door man?

Few good songs, Jim Morrison was trash

Scarlett O'Hara 05-10-2014 05:30 AM

I like them. They aren't on the top of my list of classic rock but they deserve a mention.

Moss 05-10-2014 09:24 AM

I think like many bands, the best songs are the ones you never hear. I do think Jim was a true poet, at least early on. "the End" being used in Apocalypse now was just so perfect. I tell you, when we play L.A. Woman or roadhouse blues in bars, the place goes nuts. Soul Kitchen, Peace frog, when the musics over. So much god stuff I wish you would hear instead of Light my fire, or Touch me.

Modern bands and music pull major influences from the Doors, especially since the early 90's.

Carpe Mortem 05-12-2014 01:54 PM

I think they're overrated as all ****, but ****.... catchy tunes that I enjoy listening to. And that's all music should really boil down to.

I agree with you about "The End".

But...."a true poet"???? In what way, exactly?

Moss 05-14-2014 05:01 PM

He strings groups of words together in unique and meaningful ways?

Madda 10-27-2014 09:00 AM

Guess they're among the best white Rock musicians ever. Though, nothing compared to old school african-american rockers such as Chuck Berry

Chula Vista 10-27-2014 10:38 AM

A few really good songs. A vibe that was pretty groundbreaking at the time. Jim Morrison was a total *******. He ruined himself and his band.

Way too bad in hindsight.

...and that's exactly what made the Doors something special.

Well, based on my avatar and signature, this should be obvious. I think they're among the greatest of their era. Morrison was an incredible vocalist and songwriter, Manzarek was a wizard on the keys, and Densmore and Krieger were talented and innovative instrumetalists. Their debut easily pulls its weight with the classics.
