what do you think of the doors.

though some songs are great...others are just annoying. what do you guys think of the doors? like em? or lump em?

boo boo 10-23-2006 12:37 PM

Love em.

IndiElectronica 10-24-2006 09:14 AM

good stuff... heard them so much that not really that bothered anymore tbh

buzzme 10-25-2006 12:02 AM

They are good. Liked some of their songs.

Dark Party 10-26-2006 02:56 PM

I think the Doors music remains timeless. To me they don't sound as dated as some of the 60s bands.

Morrison was an excellent songwriter and the band's funked up keyboard sound does it for me. I love songs like "Backdoor Man," "When the Music's Over," "Peace Frog," "LA Woman," "20th Century Fox," and "The End."

They rate on my top 10 band list most days.

manc_ill_kid 10-26-2006 04:42 PM

Nice basslines, good to steal and do mashups with and some of the live stuff is timeless aye

MURDER JUNKIE 10-26-2006 04:54 PM

They would probably look better with a new coat of paint and a new brass doorknob.

Oh....................and one of those bad ass gargoyle door knocker thingys

manc_ill_kid 10-26-2006 04:55 PM

aw man, that was just too obvious

Dark Party 10-26-2006 05:00 PM

I will add that Morrison is still alive. He's pumping gas and selling slim jims at a Mobile Fast Stop on Exit 24 of the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey.

A. I love The Doors. Second favorite band of all time (behind the Stones.) Don't know what else to say. :D

Sneer 10-28-2006 10:25 AM

Mama Booze 11-04-2006 01:28 AM

Oh I'm very pro-nostalgia. I'm just in love with the whole era. Not to mention that awesome sound :)

fattyboomboom21 11-06-2006 08:49 AM

true the sound was awesome...they certainly had something different going there.

Dessalines 07-12-2011 08:57 AM

Great first record, and a few high points after that.

No Quarter 08-08-2011 09:50 PM

I think very highly of the Doors myself. Sure. They have some questionable songs (the alabama song) but for the most part, they're a very strong band, that'd I'd probably kill someone to see in concert.

Would you kill Ray Manzarek to see them?

That's counterproductive. Well. Damn. Ahah.

Electrophonic Tonic 08-16-2011 08:38 PM

Maybe this belongs under the 'Unpopular Opinions' thread, but I think the Doors are incredibly underrated. Between the Beatles, Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones producing their best music, as some incredible individual talents that emerged during the psychedelic era such as Jimi and Janis. Safe to say they were pushed in the background, even with Jim Morrison.

Speaking of Mojo... as much of an enigma as he is, he really takes some credit away from the rest of the band, who were very talented in their own right.

cd2117 09-21-2011 02:09 AM

Even though the Doors do get a lot of credit, I still think they are underrated. Their music brought something to their era that a lot of others didn't. Mysterious, dark, cerebral sound. Truly one of the best to ever do it.

Howard the Duck 09-21-2011 03:48 AM

they're just alright

mostly fantastic singles, the debut's overrated

i just recently got The Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel but haven't spun them yet, so the jury's still out, I supose

Just alright!!! they`re the best band that ever existed. I know thats a very narrow minded and biased opinion of mine, but its correct:finger:

Their debut along with the Led Zep debut are the best two debuts in the history of rock.

....also Jim Morrison was the best lead singer rock has ever seen.

Jeez I should stop there but I could easily go on.

blastingas10 10-13-2011 11:58 PM

well they didnt write the alabama song, so dont blame them for that. its not the greatest, but its not that bad. The Doors are great, they were so ahead of their time, so unique. Robbie Krieger is a very underrated guitarist, hes got a unique style. He originally was a spanish flamenco player, and when The Doors formed, he had only been playing electric guitar for 6 months. Combine his spanish fingerpicking style with an electric guitar and a slide, plus the uniqueness of ray manzerak and jim morrison, that makes for a very unique sound. The Doors are so much better than zeppelin, so much more original. Zeppelins debut? That would be one of the most plagiarized albums in history. All but 2 of those songs were very heavily copied from other songs. The song babe im gonna leave you was plagairized word for word. But thats for another thread.

P.s.

Im going to see ray manzerak and robbie krieger in concert next month. I cant wait!

Anybody can plagairize, but few can plagairize well.

Howard the Duck 10-14-2011 04:40 AM

my esteem for them has risen greatly since i heard Waiting for the Sun and Strange Days

If you love those two albums, you really should listen to the debut again and as I`ve always said before one of the greatest debuts in the history of rock. The song "The End" is without doubt one of the greatest rock songs ever written and was used to startling effect in Apocolypse Now.

blastingas10 10-14-2011 04:47 PM

one of the best and unquestionably one of the most creative bands of their time or any other time

This.

I think the VU were a little bit better though.

SATCHMO 10-16-2011 05:53 PM

I can handle The Doors with the exception of Jim Morrison being an annoying, narcissistic fucktard who's writing skills were marginally competent for pulling off the frontman/rockstar personae, which is really what he seemed to do better than anything else.

SIRIUSB 10-16-2011 06:21 PM

Shouldn't this be lumped in with the Doors Jim Morrison (whatever it is called) thread like my King Crimson Appreciation thread was?
Or am I just special?:tramp:

You're probably right. I think since the thread was created before we started organizing the site with "appreciaton" and "official" threads, it kind of fell through the cracks, so to speak. I'm not sure if we have an official Doors thread.

blastingas10 11-15-2011 11:28 PM

I'm going to see Ray Manzerak and Robby Kreiger tomorrow!

I'm only hours away. They used to have this foreigner as their singer, he was terrible. Now they have this guy who looks like Jim and sounds like him even more. It's going to be great.

blastingas10 11-17-2011 01:46 AM

Just got back from seeing Ray Manzerak and Robby Krieger. Unbelievable show! Their singer sounds so much like Jim, it's crazy. I was lucky enough to witness the last show of this tour, their so old, I may have just witnessed the last show they ever play. 2 Encores! it was amazing.
