I absolutely love Rush, but Yes I'm not so much a fan of. I can listen to The Yes Album, albeit rarely.

My favourite 3 bands in order and Rush, Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree. All 3 are prog rock.
You've tried Close To The Edge by Yes?

Yeah, Pink Floyd and Rush are my top two(in that order).

I have In Absentia by Porcupine Tree, but I just can't seem to get into it.

No never listened to Close to the Edge. On the Yes Album I love "The Clap", but the rest dosen't do much for me. Another band I just don't get is Genesis. I tried to like them but it's boring. The only song that turns me on is Squonk.
I'm a big fan of ambient soundscapes and bluesy instrumentals, hence The Floyd obsession!

You`ve never listened to the most essential Yes album "Close to the Edge"??? Your favourite song from the Yes Album is "The Clap" an obvious filler song....You think Peter Gabriel era Genesis are boring!!! Or are you referring to the Phil Collins on vocals era? Some people certainly have a strange taste in music.

Close To The Egde is Yes' best album in my opinion.
Same for with Genesis, I too find them boring. I can't get into 'Gentle Giant' either.
Jethro Tull and Dream Theatre are ok too, bt none of them beat Rush or Floyd.
Oh, and for Porcupine Tree, try Deadwing and Fear of A Blank Planet.

You think "Selling England By The Pound" is a boring album?

I like most bands that are usually labelled classic rock, but sadly many of the genre's fans (even though genre really isn't the right word) believe that rock music died with Lennon or Bonham, which is pretty much as far from the truth as you can come.

"Foxtrot" is also a great album as is "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" and being a double and a concept album as well, it can be heavy going and probably not the first album that somebody should listen to, if they want to get into Gabriel era Genesis.

I actually know two people that believe this statement to be true. One is an obsessive Lennon/Beatles fan and the other a massive LED fan. Their music tastes are extremely limited and they have failed to move on and get into other stuff, I think this says it all.
