Most Americans at the time knew very little about them, by comparison to the others on that list.

I could probably look it up, but rather...Why? Why were they banned?

right-track 07-03-2008 12:15 AM

They never got an official explanation.
The speculation of why they got banned ranged from 'on stage raucous behaviour', to Dave Davies being too young.

The Monkey 07-03-2008 04:41 AM

Well, The Who never had any huge success in the US either, should they be excluded in the poll too? I think we have to expand the definition of "British Invasion" to get a more interesting poll, otherwise it'd just be another "Stones vs Beatles" thread.

right-track 07-03-2008 11:26 PM

I'm not complaining. In fact I'd be happier if The Kinks were winning. ;)
And as for "Stones vs Beatles", interestingly enough, The Stones have yet to register one vote.

I think that's a classic example of the so-called "spoiler" effect. Beatles fans will stand by their group, but the Stones fans here probably prefer the Kinks and the Who, hence the Stones' miserable showing.

FireInCairo 09-09-2008 06:18 AM

i know i fit in that category ^^^
i voted kinks cause i cant think of an album by any of the above i like or listen to more than the village green preservation society

it was closely seconded by beggars banquet though.

imdesigner 09-09-2008 08:29 AM

im gonna have to go with the who.

Comus 10-28-2008 10:42 PM

Voted Yardbirds, in the end it was a tough choice between them, The Who, The Kinks and the Animals, but I feel the Yardbirds have been more consistent in the british invasion era (ie if you disclude the Who's later stuff)

Me, too!

i went with the Beatles ~ the first rock and roll i ever heard, and you never forget your first...

Bulldog 10-29-2008 03:24 AM

I'll have to abstain - voting for one would present me with a major moral dilemma!

dac 10-29-2008 12:07 PM

I went Beatles. Am I the only one who has just never gotten into The Who?

This_Is_Corey 10-29-2008 12:10 PM

I went with the Beatles. Out of the bands listed there, I could only make an informed judgement on the Beatles, the Kinks, and the Who, but I love the Beatles just cause of how their music progressed from being simple catchy pop songs to crazy experimental songs and back again.

No. I've never been able to get into The Who either. Looks like I was the only person to vote for The Animals on here so far.

Kevorkian Logic 10-29-2008 06:01 PM

I always really liked the kinks, and I'm surprised they have as many votes as they do...

I can`t get into them except for `The Who Sell Out.` Who`s next bores me.

JamesCahall 11-02-2008 12:46 PM

Beatles

FaSho 11-02-2008 04:50 PM

**** it. I'm picking The Stones.

I`m not alone anymore :D.

Astronomer 11-03-2008 03:23 PM

I was predictable and went The Beatles. However The Kinks and the Animals would follow closely behind...

I voted for the Who ironically.

But it's probably a tie between them and the Beatles.

anticipation 11-04-2008 09:59 AM

kinks always.

theseeker242 11-04-2008 12:17 PM

the who all the way!! they were the first to rock hard!

FaSho 11-04-2008 02:22 PM

No.

theseeker242 11-05-2008 12:52 PM

yes they were. who do you think did it before them?

Palomar 11-05-2008 02:13 PM

May I lodge a complaint that the Yardbirds and the Small Faces were listed in the poll, but the Zombies were not?

FaSho 11-05-2008 02:31 PM

No, because there is an "other" option.

Maddest_Hatter 11-05-2008 03:06 PM

The Who!

HotRockinJohnny 11-07-2008 09:35 AM

My favorite is The Beatles, but I'm giving my vote to The Rolling Stones, because they deserve more than 2 votes.

I'm kind of surprised that The Rolling Stones are getting slaughtered in this poll.

theseeker242 02-11-2009 07:40 AM

The Rolling Stones are not as good as everyone acts like they are. They only have a few really good songs

Sneer 02-11-2009 10:13 AM

The Beatles. The Kinks and Small Faces arent far behind though

Birdie Num Nums 02-11-2009 02:24 PM

The Kinks.

jastrub 11-07-2010 02:28 PM

[poll] Favorite British Invasion Band?

This is just to see what everyone's favorite british invasion band is, and to spark debate on the merits of each of them individually.

James 11-07-2010 02:36 PM

The Who. The most physically talented, but also with plenty of songwriting abilities and creativity to back them up.

Farfisa 11-10-2010 06:13 PM

The Stones as Mick Jagger is hawt, lol XD.

:l

Toao 11-11-2010 06:13 PM

The Kinks.

MagicMan 11-11-2010 07:33 PM

The Who by a hair over The Beatles.

PinkCigarette 11-14-2010 02:10 PM

The Yardbirds, hell yes. Jimmy Page, indeed.

The Yardbirds didn't really make it in America though. A great band nevertheless.

I thought they did, on that Animals/Kinks '65 kind of level where they were the toasts of the Shindig! style shows. And Epic's exploitation of their music through those albums charted pretty good. they certainly were not Hermans/DC5 in The States, but The US knew about them pretty good.
