I'm sorry, I predicted this 60's. :p:

Marcel 12-12-2012 06:12 PM

Definitely the Beatles. Stones and the Kinks would come a close 2nd (I know this will cause some controversy). But nobody could beat them.

Powerstars 01-06-2013 06:30 PM

Beatles, second place is The Who.

zEPfAN 03-21-2013 08:05 PM

Beatles. But where is Led Zeppelin?

neardeathexperience 03-30-2013 07:38 PM

The BEATLES kicked off the entire thing. Bold, brash, new sexy, talented and British what more do you need!

Chives 06-18-2013 11:15 AM

I'd probably say...

1. The Beatles
2. The Kinks
3. Small Faces
4. The Rolling Stones
5. The Who

Small Faces never released as much great work as the Stones or or the Who, but I think I like them more than either. Their debut is one of my favorite 60s party albums, it grooves hard, and I'm convinced Steve Marriot has one of the most rock and roll ready singing voices ever. The lyrics don't live up to it usually but they work on that over the next few releases. I've never heard a bad album by them...I guess they just speak to me! Stones and Who are great though.

Yardbirds should be on there but I'm just not familiar enough with them to put them on there.

Gavin B. 06-18-2013 04:48 PM

The Yardbirds should be one of the choices. They were my favorite British Invasion band.

Led Zeppelin is from Great Britain, but they're not a British Invasion band, because they didn't form until 1969. British Invasion refers to the first wave of English bands who became successful in America in the two years following the Beatles first trip to America in February 1964.

apart from the more popular and well known there were a host of others who i like. they just dominated the music scene back then.

Gerry & the Pacemakers
Herman's Hermits
The Hollies
Manfred Mann
The Moody Blues
The Zombies
Freddie and the Dreamers
The Spencer Davis Group
Donovan
The Animals
The Dave Clark Five
Marianne Faithfull
Lulu

I was suprised to see the Beatles outstrip the Rolling Stones by more than half in this poll, I guess I'm in the minority

neardeathexperience 09-20-2013 08:24 AM

Looking back over the Rolling Stones contribution to pop music they hold up well to the Beatles, but I think they were never hyped as much as the Beatles. There was never a Rolling Stone mania where as well Beatlemania along with a crushing commercial on slot of merchandise kept them at the for front of the British invasion bands..........

Taxman 10-18-2013 01:23 AM

Love them all but maybe 1) Beatles 2) Rolling Stones 3) Kinks 4) Who. And everyone should listen also The Move.

FenderTele 11-06-2013 02:58 PM

For the sake of voting I chose the Beatles, but I like almost all British invasion bands starting with The Tornados.

Gavin B. 12-04-2013 07:23 AM

I really liked the Merseyside bands from Liverpool like the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, the Searchers, the Mindbenders, the Merseybeats and the Swinging Bluejeans.

Excelsior 12-05-2013 03:39 AM

The Rolling Stones of course ! (Really don't like The Beatles)

galt54 12-25-2013 10:26 PM

My favorite British invasion bands in order of preference:

1) The Beatles.
2) The Rolling Stones.
3) The Kinks, The Dave Clark 5 (a tie).

Penny Lane 64 01-27-2014 12:52 PM

Voted the Beatles. They are my favorite band of all time.

Pet_Sounds 03-01-2014 08:03 AM

Beatles get my vote. The Kinks and Stones are also really good. I'm not a big fan of the Who.

Necromancer 03-01-2014 08:11 AM

I'll go with the Rolling Stones as a favorite on this one. I've always been a big fan of The Who as well, and I admire the songwriting capabilities of Pete Townshend.

Dude111 07-01-2019 12:24 AM

The Kinks and the who :)

Deaa 07-30-2019 01:55 AM

One Direction

Eleanor Rigby 14 01-12-2021 02:25 AM

OK, I guess the Beatles are just too special for me. I've been listening to them my whole life, I know there've been bands "technically" better than them, but I know for sure they win in songwriting.
1. The Beatles
2. The Who (But The Kinks are sooo great, too. Difficult to choose)
3. The Kinks
4. The Yardbirds (Eric, Jeff and Jimmy in the same band? Are you kidding me?)
5. The Animals (They were OK)
6. The Rolling Stones (Don't kill me, I just can't stand Mick Jagger)
7. Small Faces (Haven't heard anything from them)

Fantomas72 02-14-2021 04:07 AM

Was The Beatles' music really that unique..., yes !
But I love The Kinks too !

Psychedelic Revolution 02-15-2021 12:34 PM

The Beatles then Stones then The Who then The Kinks. 'Art Lover' is such an underrated Kinks song.

galt54 04-08-2024 01:29 AM

Aside from the Beatles, my favourite British Invasion band - at that time (ca. 1964) was The Dave Clark Five. They had lots of melodic, up-tempo songs. The kind of songs I liked.
