I agree, and Rubber Soul has some very flawed moments, to me Revolver best captures the bands evolution.

Word, 'cause it's only with Revolver that suddenly the arrangements have become super clever and sophisticated and we're listening to hybrid pop like it's never sounded before.

abbey road all the way. it's just so happy lovey-dovey and good! their songwriting is more mature too. sure, they're ALL great, but abbey road is best, followed by let it be in 2nd, then a tie between revolver & rubber soul - which are kinda interchangeable to me anyway (they might as well be a double album). likewise, a tie for 4th between sgt. pepper/MMT.

Yeh, Rubber Soul had great moments, but also some **** songs and had nowhere near the musical sophistication of Revolver.

It was Revolver for a long time for me, but just lately Abbey has pipped it.

It was only when I was writing a review for my blog on Abbey Road that I realised that I now preferred it over Revolver.

One of the joys is that each member of the band seems to be at their best on this album. Even Ringo proves his critics wrong by showing them up with a great drum solo during the album’s closing medley. Paul belts out some cracking vocals, very powerful stuff, John rocks like never before and George presents some of his finest songs ever. Individually they all shine in their own right and when they come together (pardon the pun) they shake the earth with their brilliance.

This album has the sparks of genius running all the way through it from beginning to end. It is these sparks of true beauty that continues to inspire and move people even after all these years.

There are a few weak tracks, mainly novelty songs, but these are merely small blips on an otherwise shining record. The highs are certainly well worth the lows.

The Monkey

Abbey Road certainly has the best of Ringo's drumming. He was always a subtle drummer, and thus the drumming is far different from IV or My Generation, but the way the drumming works and blends with the music on Abbey Road would've made both John and Keith jealous.
