I'd give it to Chuck Berry. Mainly because Rock n' Roll was primarily Black music when it originated. Also, because I kind of hate Elvis and Little Richard.

Elvis was a racist and a plagiarist.

Little Richard was annoying as ****e.

Chuck Berry.

This is the worst thread I've made in a long time in any forum, why do people keep bumping it?

I'm so sick of this thread

It's really hard to take the opinions of teens, 20 somethings and even to a lesser extent 30-somethings seriously when the term is more a result of the cultural phenomenon Elvis, which they never witnessed or experienced, then the musical pioneer Elvis which history has, perhaps rightly, not been kind to.

Elvis is "The King of Rock & Roll" for the same reasons Wayne Gretzky is "The Great One" and Babe Ruth is "The Great Bambino". People of the era decided to gloss them that and their collective voice was loud enough to make it stick.

It's a fucking Nickname; and just as you can't give yourself a nickname, you can't decide to change someone elses', he's not a real King.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

^ I see your point, and well put.

But you also have to consider that the time is coming where were going to be the old ****ers that the kids who want to know about the origins of Rock n' Roll are going to come to for information.

It's annoying but it's natural of a forum like this, i haven't got that hindsight so all i can do is judge on what is put in front of me. The majority opinion is always going to be a factor. Take even lesser known bands like the Monks, no hope in hell i would have heard about them now if it wasn't for all the people here who listened to them and praised them.

Robert Johnson, hands down. One of the first slide guitarists and a major player in the creation of classic rock.

Hey dude, you can credit the guy for influencing rock n roll and indirectly everything that came after it.

But don't give him all the blame for REO Speedwagon.
