Default Starcastle or Worst Band Ever?

My friend keeps raving about Starcastle. What do I think of them? Absolutely horrible. They are not original. They are your generic 70's English prog group using vocabulary significantly larger than the average human can comprehend and just mooching off the greatness of Yes.

The thing is they're at least generic good. They don't stand out amongst prog bands in particular but they're also well above average.

I recently had the opportunity to hear Starcastle's "Fountains of Light" album and I wasn't impressed. I think I expected more from Terry Luttrell though, after the wonderful work he did on REO Speedwagon's debut album ("Dead at Last" is still one of my favorite songs to come out of '71).

I remember buying a Starcastle album (yes, ALBUM, not CD --- I'm that old!) purely for the artwork. I think it was a debut, self-titled? Anyway, I got through about three tracks and was drowning in sugar! I hated everything about it. Limp, unoriginal, uninspiring, boring, unremarkable, forgettable --- so yeah, I'm a real Starcastle fan!

I was recommended Starcastle by a music teacher after he heard of my interest in prog. I looked them up and saw nor heard nothing mind-blowing. Pretty boring songs, most of them sounded alike. The same Moogy keyboard part for each song. And the vocals were kind of annoying.

Yeah, these guys are pretty much a poor man's Yes.

Whenever I talk about the decline of prog in the late 70s I often use these guys as an example.

I was just going to say that. Had 2 of their albums back in the 70's and really only played them once. Don't know if I still have them since all my records are in storage. Were they not a Canadian band?
