Default Heat Seven: Battle of the Bands

Jethro Tull:

Jethro Tull are the epitome of awesome from Ian Andersons distinct voice and flute playing to Martin Barre guitar playing. After creating Aqualung which was perceived by many (falsely) to be a concept album, they decided to make a huge overblown tongue in cheek effort, which turned out to be one of the best concept albums of the 70’s; Thick as a Brick. Check out any of their albums, seriously they’re all good.

The Pentangle:

It had Bert Jansch in it, still not convinced? This is miles more listenable than Fairport Convention, although I’d rate them equally, give any of their early stuff a listen.

Barclay James Harvest:

I don’t really know much about them, and have been meaning to check em out, I’m sure someone is willing to give a proper bio.

Judas Priest:

These guys are pretty damn awesome, check out Hellbent for Leather or British Steel for some pretty cool metal. Stained Class also merits a listen although I could never get into it, I funnily enough prefer their albums before their most popular ones.

Rare Bird:

Lovely discrete prog rock, check them out. I prefer Capability Brown’s covers of their work though.

Barclay James Harvest AND Jethro Tull. I really don't know. I really like them both.

If Judas Priest makes it then I'll have lost respect for the Music Banter community...

Comus-you should really check out BJH-Once Again. It's a fantastic album. Their sound is quite lush and relies on melodious vocals and lush orchestration. Although their earlier stuff is a little heavier. That's made my mind up now! BJH it is.

Thick as a Brick is by far my favorite prog album. But then they follow it up with a sh*tty, even more overblown album.
