You can't say the beatles were not a influence on rock though, it really depends on what kind of rock music you are talking about and what you consider to be rock music, The Stones were not necessarly doing anything new, they were a blues rock band who just turned it up a notch and had a special kind of intensity and agressivness that was unmatched, at least until zeppelin, who took blues based hard rock to a new level, anyway, the beatles may have started out as a pop band, but after rubber soul they became extreamly experiemental, because they were so popular they were allowed all the creative controll they wanted(few bands were back then), they took studio albums to a brand new level, Sgt Pepper was a primary influence on Art Rock, Psychedelic Rock and espeicaly Progressive Rock, though that last one may explain why i am being a little biased here.

The Reasons you gave for the stones being greater have been.

1.They were much more consistant, lasted longer than the beatles
2.They were a lot more rock while the beatles were more pop

I just dont think this is enough to sway me, if there are any other reasons for them being greater, then by all means lay em out, its only my opinion of course, and i dont want this to get nasty just because of differing opinions, if you think it will then i will kindly quit debating...And who said im not giving The Stones credit?, i give them credit where its due, they have made many great albums, are a great live band, have a amazing frontman and consist of some very talented musicians, i like the Stones very much, exile on main street rules...I just dont think they had quite as much deversity or creativity as The Beatles, and didn't innovate as much, again its my opinion, im by no means stating it as a fact.

Hey, no one can hate Beatles! Beatles is one of the best artists ever. I like Rolling Stones, but I like beatles a lot, cuz I like their voice and most famously Yellow Submarine, which is my favorite animated movie. I also like the song a lot, cuz sometimes I wanna say flying submarine instead of yellow submarine when I'm singing.

I think your high regard of the beatles is the lore and the overall vibe toward them. You're told their the greatest, so you say so. If you disagree with that last sentence, then tell me why a band must quit when they stop making hit singles.
Well, first I need to say, that's it's not the "overall vibe" which makes me love the Beatles. I grew up with them because my parents love them. We got every single Beatles record (I hope to inherit them one day). They were the first band I got to listen to and I think that's what remains...My parents love the Stones too and I listened to them as well. I still do. But if I had to pick either the Stones or the Beatles, then I'd always choose the Beatles because there's no other band which influenced my taste in music the way they did. That's the way I feel about them and I don't mind if you pick the Stones for your own personal reasons... That's only my point of view.
I didn't mean to say that you should quit your career when you realise that commercial success starts decreasing. What I wanted to say is that you should stop when you realise that it's getting worse. As I said already, I love the Stones for what they were in the past, but nowadays? I don't like their latest stuff and the point is: Wasn't Rock & Roll meant for the youth? That's what it's all about - the youth. Rebellion. Rebellion of the youth. The youth is rebellion. A 62-year-old man who still tries to behave like a 20-year-old boy can't be message and sense of Rock & Roll music.
I can't deny: The Stones are legendary. And world wouldn't be the same without them.
But my heart belongs to the Beatles.
