I'm afraid that comment is going to remain off the record because that single dot in the OP means he already done dropped the mic.

All of Zep's boring songs are my mic drop.

Did you know that Led Zeppelin invented drone music?

Zhanteimi 10-11-2017 09:45 PM

.

The Batlord 10-11-2017 09:56 PM

Did you know that Led Zeppelin are a contested province between India and Pakistan?

Chula Vista 10-11-2017 10:50 PM

Did you know that Led Zeppelin really, really likes the word THE?

THE Battle of Evermore
THE Crunge
THE Lemon Song
THE Song Remains the Same
THE Ocean
THE Rain Song
THE Rover
THE Batlord

Hmmmm........

Frownland 10-11-2017 10:53 PM

I once saw a video where Robert Plant ascended two steps...perhaps that means that they were TCH references?

Neapolitan 10-11-2017 11:12 PM

AOR when????

AOR in 1972 was way different than AOR in 1974, or AOR in 1976, or AOR in 1978, or AOR in 1980. AOR went from relevant to a joke in less than a decade. 1:30-2:00 minute songs in the punk, new-wave, disco, synth pop, etc., genres added to the death knell, and then MTV drove the final nail into the coffin.

So which AOR short lived era are we talking about?

Oriphiel 10-12-2017 04:31 AM

He was talking about Ass Oriented Rock. So %100.

Don't you mean droning music?

Early example of racist Zep song...

Led Zeppelin being the greatest band ever. Not just the greatest rock band (questionable enough on it's own), but the best band, of any kind, full stop?

 :rofl:

OccultHawk 10-12-2017 07:20 AM

They were a great band. Great chemistry, supreme talent, a weird sense of mysticism. And also revolutionary in many ways. They did push boundaries.

MicShazam 10-12-2017 07:33 AM

What does 'greatest' even mean in this context? Commercial successfulness? Influence on future bands? How good their music is (which would of course be 100% subjective opinion)?

It's a pretty loose term.

OccultHawk 10-12-2017 07:54 AM

It's not a superlative I would use when describing LZ but I can understand getting really swept up in their music.

Years back VH1 were into polling a bunch of musicians (200 total) across a wide range of genres to compile various 'best of' lists.

Greatest Artists
1. The Beatles
2. Michael Jackson
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The Rolling Stones
5. Bob Dylan
6. Jimi Hendrix
7. Prince
8. Elvis Presley
9. James Brown
10. Stevie Wonder

Greatest Hard Rock Artists
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Black Sabbath
3. Jimi Hendrix
4. AC/DC
5. Metallica
6. Nirvana
7. Van Halen
8. The Who
9. Guns N Roses
10. Kiss

Well if 200 musicians say something, it must be true.

Frownland 10-12-2017 10:10 AM

Lol that's one of my favourite articles. Half of the items are basically "Led Zeppelin is the greatest because they're famous and rich as ****."

The Batlord 10-12-2017 10:14 AM

How ****ty were the artists they talked to?

The credibility of the whole thing is called into question by Kiss being on one of the lists. Plus, if you ask any large group of people the same question, the common denominators are going to be a bunch of famous artists.

OccultHawk 10-12-2017 10:16 AM

Have you ever been to a KISS concert?

MicShazam 10-12-2017 10:18 AM

Thank god no.

OccultHawk 10-12-2017 10:21 AM

Have you ever had sex?

MicShazam 10-12-2017 10:24 AM

What does that have to do with terrible rock bands?

Paul Smeenus 10-12-2017 10:24 AM

I've been to a Led Zeppelin concert.

No but I've seen Alice Cooper put on a very entertaining live show and still thought his music sucked.

The criteria included popularity, sales, legacy, influence, style, originality, etc. So sure, famous artists fit the bill in most cases.

Any Pantera fans here? Dimebag picked up a guitar because of Kiss. And he was one of thousands.

Greatest artists. Not best music. That'd be like asking what's the best meal.

The greatest artists make the best music. Any other criteria is pandering. Most influential? What the **** does that have to do with Led Zeppelin as makers of music?

If you've never seen KISS live dismissing them is like dismissing sex because you thought daddy was hurting mommy.

I would add Deep Purple, Rainbow and Iron Maiden instead of Nirvana, The Who and Guns N Roses.
