Ahh ok, although I would say that Queen and The Beatles are quite mainstream (everyone knows them). Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd...I mean Stairway To heaven and Another Brick In The Wall are really overplayed too! They're considered as legendary bands, and are very famous too.

You have to appreciate how the pieces fit together and the beauty will become apparent. It takes time and a certain amount of work and humility. Don’t worry about music you don’t get yet. Don’t write it off. Just save your opinions for when your ready for it. It takes a certain amount of incremental steps. For 14 you’re doing great. You already have sophisticated music taste. Stick around and you’ll end up appreciating and loving everything.

Yeah, thanks, I get it. 4 years ago I used to hate most of the bands I love now, I understand what you mean.

Buffalo Springfield
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

If you like Neil Young, both of these groups might also interest you because Neil Young played in both of them before he went solo.

Oh yeah, Buffalo Springfield were the For What It's Worth guys, right? I thought Stephen Stills was on that band, too

Thank you very much to everyone!! I'll listen to all your recommendations!

You can still coment an recomed as much as you want! I don't care if it isn't rock, you can also include from other genres! I'm really into classical, too.

As for other punk songs, I'm not sure if Lust For Life by Iggy Pop would be considered a punk song. If it is, then, great, because I love it. I thought Iggy was a cool guy untill I found a video of him and Yoko Ono "singing" together.

Just the thought of Iggy singing with Yoko is enough to send my Iggy boner crashing to the ground like the Hindenburg on it's worst day.

First of all I'm not good at writting reviews about albums but here I go:
I've only listened to side one and I must say that I'm impressed. It's a very original and "cool" album, reminds me a bit of Tommy by The Who, maybe? Although I haven't finished listening to it, I think that, as an album, is better than The Wall and Tommy because unlike these two, it's not unnecessarily long. What I mean is that, I could easily pick a song from The Wall and listen to it without listening to the whole album. But I'd prefer sitting and listening to S.F. Sorrow as a whole album instead of choosing a track (damn, I wish my English was better). I think my favourite track by now is Bracelets Of Fingers, but I repeat that it's the kind of album I enjoy listening to without skipping any songs. Let's see if side two is a as good as side one. Thank you for the suggestion!
By the way, I've answered you about Vivaldi on the top 5 composers thread.

And what do you think about S.F. Sorrow? I mean, if you've recommended it, obviusly you like it, but is it your favourite album or something like that? Or which one's your favourite track?
I'm listening to side 2 right now.

I've just listened to Sunday Morning, it was a bit too experimental, maybe?? What I mean is that I had never heard something similar, and I've liked this song. It was cool, thanks!

Hahaha yeah love that photo.
Seems like Yoko Ono was really into rock music, some years ago she started singing The Great Gig In The Sky by Pink Floyd in an art gallery. Does Yoko Ono have the worst voice in rock history? Good topic for a thread.

Good for you, Eleanor!
The Allmans are one of my very favourite bands. Duane was the best, but even after he died they still had a line-up of great guitarists.

That Yoko/Iggy clip was interesting to watch; not so much for the music, but just to see what they would do on stage together.

( @ Psy-Fi: I understand there is now a pill on the market to help you with that problem. ;))

Hahaha yeah I couldn't stop laughing while I was watching it.
I don't know if Duane's the best one, but I was really surprised when I found out that he played on "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs". One of my favourite guitarists collaborating with my No.1 musician! Clapton is the best, although as a guitarist I prefer Page.

There’s been lots of conversations on Yoko here. She’s a beautiful legend. An artistic genius and has one of the coolest most complimentary voices in pop music that aggressively challenges the status quo while making everything she touches more interesting and just plain better. Nobody sounds like her. She has a perfect signature sound that’s wildly unique but she never steps on anyone’s toes. She’s always amplifying the spirit of the music and doing it in a way that no other person on earth can. She can splatter the avant-garde on anything. And when two unassailable legends like her and Iggy are on stage together it’s not our place to judge the gods. It’s incumbent on us to be grateful for every wonderful sound they make and for all they’ve given us which is no less that a reason to live.

OK, I'm not gonna talk about her visual artworks or if she broke up The Beatles, but let's say that she doesn't have a very nice voice. Better if we stop talking 'bout Yoko, cuase then the whole thread is gonna be about her.

Yeah Tommy is a great comparison.

I don’t consider Tommy or The Wall unnecessarily long though.

Your understanding of SF Sorrow so quick is really impressive.

My favorite track is the opening track.

I know you mentioned The Kinks but just to make sure, you have listened Village Green right?

PS It’s not ok to say bad things about Yoko.

Yes, Village Green Preservation Society is great, but I prefer Waterloo Sunset. And Tommy's not long, but The Wall is only good until track no. 20 in my opinion. The opening track is great, too, but I prefer Bracelets Of Fingers.

OccultHawk 01-13-2021 07:11 AM

Well the others gave you tons of stuff to check out but when you get back to my picks I want you to try The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators

Never heard about them.
And about The Pretty Things, I only knew that they were related to The Rolling Stones in some way, I think.

No, I mean, The Wall is a bit like a Waters solo album with some brilliant collaborations with David Gilmour. Sometimes gets on my nerves, if I listen to the whole album.

Another album that I really find interesting is Selling England By The Pound by Genesis.

Yes, it's the first thing I heard from Genesis with Peter Gabriel, but I still prefer Selling England By The Pound. Firth Of Fifth is such a masterpiece!

By the way, is listening to Suicide by Suicide like a dangerous experience or something?

Well now we know it’s going to be the next thing you listen to lol

Thanks a lot batlord

It’s a post punk masterpiece work of genius in the highest order

It’s just really dark

If I were a parent (and thank god I’m not) I wouldn’t want my 14 year old daughter listening to it

Besides I don’t think you’re ready for it from an artistic standpoint

And that’s not an insult - you know tons about music

I mean, since you came on here and asked I think it’s best to listen to things step by step to get a clearer idea how this led to that and so on.

I actually think you should move backwards to the early delta blues and then build your knowledge base from there

Eleanor Rigby 14 01-13-2021 09:49 AM

I was just asking, I just read it's a techno album or something like that, so I guess I'll have to wait more to listen to it.
By the way, although I don't know many names of jazz/blues musicians, that kind of music is played in my house 24h a day hehe thanks to that and the classical piano pieces i had to learn, i started getting interested into rock about 2 years ago lol

It's more like deconstructed 50s rock that just happens to be played on a synthesizer.
