Alright, I'm grateful for all the recs you made, I know that I'm gonna listen to all of them, but please, if you could tell me which album/song should I listen to next please tell me, cause I'm confused! From your suggestions I've already listened to S.F. Sorrow and The Velvet Underground & Nico, I've liked them both (the first one more than the second one because I didn't get it very well, to be honest), so if you could tell which album should i move on to next, that would be wonderful. Thanks! And if you could stop fighting 'bout who knows more music, much better ;)

Yeah. But after that she needs to keep VU in rotation every second or third record until it sticks.

You don’t just listen to a record like that and shrug I don’t get it and move on. It’s already there now. In fact, it was you and bat that let that genie out of the bottle. Now it’s gotta be dealt with. I would’ve waited.

I disagree. If you force yourself to listen to something against your will no good will come of it, you might even come to resent it. Ultimately, music should be enjoyed. You need to come back when you're ready, of your own accord. That doesn't mean completely shrugging it off, just leaving it as a little note in the back of your mind.

Well, I don't understand half of the things you're saying while you discuss, but anyway, I'm doubting between chosing Odessey and Oracle or Are You Experienced (this one because I'm already familiar to it). So if you could please tell me, I'll be very grateful.

Well, I started to learn 4 years ago, tryin' to sing songs by ABBA. But I've been at home since March because of COVID-19, alone most of the time, cause my parents had to work, so that was when I really started listening to whole albums the whole day, and my English got a lot better than before.

Thank you! My English teachers get angry at me cause they say I have a Scouse accent lmao

Trollheart 01-16-2021 03:21 PM

No matter what anyone else says here (and I know what they'll all say) as you're a fan of Genesis I'm gonna rec my second-favourite band. The rest of you can all suck my d - er thumb. (Cr - ah, crumbs, it's annoying that we have to watch what we say now that there's a kid in the room...) ;)

or for more modern Marillion

I can steer you towards good prog bands if you're interested.
Oh and if you like Marillion try Fish's solo work too.

The Batlord 01-16-2021 03:23 PM

Unless those teachers are native English speakers I'll bet they have accents too. And native English speakers have all kinds of accents so as long you can be understood or are speaking to an ******* then it doesn't matter.

They're native English speakers, that's the problem.

I've got a question. There're 2 old famous bands, from which I've only heard 1 song and I'd like to know what do you think about them. I'm talking about Badfinger and ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

I'm a big ELO fan. First band I was ever into. What do you want to know about them? Best albums, in my opinion: Out of the Blue, El Dorado, Discovery, A New World Record

OK thanks, I just wanted to know cause I hadn't heard much about them, I didn't even know what style did they play.

Marie Monday 01-17-2021 10:46 AM

I don't think I've heard a single song from either of those bands actually. I've heard of ELO, I should give them a listen I guess

I've only heard Don't Bring Me Down which is one of the most catchy songs ever imo.
And from Badfinger I've heard Baby Blue and also that the 2 main songwriter killed themselves being very young.

In the States Day After Day is (was?) an AOR staple and Without You is (was?) an AM radio staple but it was a cover of their version by Harry Nilsson that took off. Even Baby Blue really only shines during the chorus.

In my opinion, Ms. Rigby, Badfinger is an unrewarding rabbit hole.

ELO on the other hand have lots of great songs. I only knew their hits until we got into a big discussion about them on here a couple years back and I was very surprised by how much more they had to offer.

Trollheart (who posted above) and Ori are our go-to experts.

Without You was by Badfinger? I didn't know that, always heard the Mariah Carey version.
I agree that Baby Blue only shines during the chorus. I was asking because The Beatles had said wonderful things about them, Paul McCartney had even written a song for them and produced it, but they had a tragic ending, that seemed strange to me.
And I thought ELO was the band of Olivia Newton-John (Xanadu) lol
I'll probably listen to them, they seem to be catchy but interesting at the same time, and they don't seem to be ultra experimental.
