There was a time in the 80s when it seemed like a lot of different musicians would try their hand at rockabilly, even if it wasn't their usual style. John Hiatt was no exception:

Texan Rhodes rocks the house with this interesting tune that features an eerie saxophone:

One of my favorite songwriters. I didn't know he dabbled in rockabilly. Not unlistenable but I wouldn't rate it more than a 5/10.

It's not the best song he's ever done but I've heard worse rockabilly. What's your favorite album by Hiatt?

I've probably heard about 50% of his studio albums and out of those, 'Beneath This Gruff Exterior' would be my favorite. Good songwriting from start to finish and with one of my favorite guitarists, Sonny Landreth, as a member of the backing band.

'Bring the Family' would probably be a close second for favorite album of his.

I haven't kept up with any of his last 6 or 7 studio albums, though, so I need to get up to speed with those.

You'e the first person in a long time to say a Hiatt album other than Bring The Family is their favorite. Kind of refreshing. I'm an outlier in that I tend to prefer his earlier, more rock-oriented albums like Slug Line, Two Headed Monsters, and the earlier stuff on Geffen. But some of his later stuff is quite good as well.

The b-side to Brenda Lee's first single was Bigelow 6-200 and was written by Bob Woody (whose song "Morse Code" I posted upthread) and his songwritign partner Paul Simmons. Contrary to what the label says, she was 11, not 9, when the song came out. Regardless, she shows a powerful voice for such a young age, sounding very much like Wanda Jackson:

Before he made it big in country music, Conway Twitty was a rock and roll singer, as evidenced in part by this good rockabilly tune. I wish he would have been more successful in rock so we could have been spared his pointless C&W blatherngs.
