Help!!! (lyrics, one-hit wonder, one-hit, quote, band)

I'm in a band and I'm the one writing the lyrics. (I also play guitar)

My drummer and I are working on the music but I just can't get the right music to work with my lyrics.

Any pointers?

Make the music first, always. I don't think that music should guided towards lyrics, because lyrics are just words which are formed to a beat.

that is horrible advise. Do not do that, You don't always have to write lyrics first but illusion is suggesting its ok to sing gibberish if it goes with the beat.

Unless you skat, or want to be a cheesy one-hit wonder. Do not listen to that advise.

i think what he means is that he cant get any lyrics to work with the music. ive had the same problems. i say, write the lyrics...and fit the songs around them. that way, youll get the lyrics you want...rather than some crappy stuff that fits....and you can rework some of the music that you already have, to fit those lyrics. thats what my band did....(before we split). and it seemed to work pretty well.

I was meaning that you should have a good beat before you start to write the lyrics. Not the whole song, must have worded it wrong

It just doesn't fit well.

I have a beat that goes with the lyrics.

But I've been trying to work with different keys. And none of them seem to work well with what I have written.
