Default Confines

"Confines"

Great confines are opened so effortlessly
For those wishing to dwell in those finite crevices
Feeding off nothing but what they see that lives in the corners
The exact same abode as them

And they can call it exploration
To climb half way up the wall
With raw knuckles and sweaty palms
"That's as far as anyone can go"

But you haven't really discovered anything until
Your goddamn hand has grasped the earth and reaffirmed some
Simultaneous thought process of new territory
As old thoughts drift away like the dirt falling through your fingers unwillingly into the deep abyss of muzzled freedom

Fuck it must feel good to accomplish such a risky, overwhelming feat
Writing this way while trapped in some confines that lead me to corners of corners
I see you up there, or do I?
We all see you, that great insufferable being, pacing at the top of the ravine, waiting to pull us out of this dark hole

Then life realizes that you were never allowed up there in the first place
You get swallowed by death
One mild afternoon, probably right after attaining your ground level perspective
So short, life is, so short, as short as us, we that are perplexed enough with everything happening here
Us standing right here, below the deep, not saying much
